My brother with the stage 4 throat cancer had to have the port in his chest removed after they found it was infected with staph. Bad enough he has the cancer but now this really has him shaken. He's been admitted for treatment and observation but he's afraid he might not make it through. He's confiding the full truth in me and his wife, telling me of things he wants me to do when he's gone. I hate cancer. Me too. I lost my brother-in-law (who was my best friend in college) to esophageal cancer two years ago & it still hurts. My wife (his sister) struggles with his absence everyday.
I can't say anything that will make this better. It is really hard on the whole family. Sit with him & talk about good memories that you share. You will cherish those moments later.

Prayers and best wishes.

Thank you everyone !
It's been hard on the entire family, but obviously so hard on him. Most days he's not able to talk or can barely talk. The burns on the outside are better but are most of the pain is inside the mouth making it very hard to swallow. He barely eats and most of the time can't hold anything down.
They should've have admitted him sooner, but finally did a few days ago after removing his infected port.
Again, thank you for the support and positive thoughts for Beavis (not his real name but that's what I've called him since that show).
I'm looking into what and how I can somehow get involved with the Cancer Society to somehow help others and maybe even him somehow. Told him last night since being admitted he wants to know what they've found and what they done. Maybe maybe maybe we can help throw an idea or suggestion towards them they missed, overlooked, hadn't thought of, etc. Doctors and staff are only human like the rest of us. Without knowing the detailed status, which we're entitled to, we can't give valid feedback / suggestions. I'm sure they don't appreciate that, but that's his right as a patient.

Thank you
I've said you're all my virtual family. I share with you and you all give me and my family strength.
Hopefully you have a glimmer of what that means to me; I hope you do.
My parents and I are probably going to see him at UNMC University of Nebraska Medical Center tomorrow.
I didn't hear from until this evening and I was worried he had passed. I know it concerned my parents too but they tried to conceal it.

I was reading Howard The Duck #1 for the first time today and found this ad: It'a not the content of the ad that caught my attention; it's the address: Roslyn, NY is my hometown, where I lived for the first 18 years of my life. It's not a particularly big nor noteworthy place, so this really caught me by surprise. People who lived two towns away sometimes didn't know where Roslyn was. And the weirdest part for me is that I was born only three years after this ad saw publication, yet I never heard of a Zane Grey Library in Roslyn. I can't even think of where it could have been housed. There's almost no commercial property in Roslyn. But if some guy was just running it out of his house, I'd think the post office would need a street address. The ad just says "The Zane Grey Library" and the city, state, and zip. So I'm mystified. And really, how odd to find an ad with my old hometown address from where I spent the first half of my life (Roslyn) in a book that takes place in the city where I've spent the second half of my life (Cleveland).

Did a little more research. It looks like these books were being sold by Walter J. Black Publishing House, and that they were essentially printing collected editions of all sorts of previously published fiction from as early as 1928 thru at least 1977. In 1928, Roslyn was all farmland, so I'm assuming they were originally working out of a different location.
