But seriously, I avoid iconic covers because they're too easy. The more obscure and funny the better. But sometimes I see the winner and shake my head...

I loved the Aquaman cartoon, even before I bought a single comic book.

As the second most frequent winner, I can honestly say I have no idea why people vote for what they do. I have won with covers from Barbie, XXXenophile, a pre-Batman issue of Detective Comics... Personally, I just pick a cover that appeals to me. If I have a choice between a well-known cover and a more obscure, I will usually choose the more obscure, as sometimes the novelty of a cover people haven't seen before might garner some votes. Plus there is the fun of allowing people to see a cover they might not have seen before. The hunt to find the right cover is a large part of the fun for me in this contest, and I would continue to enter even if I never won. And for the record, I'm not American. I am Australian, which is why I will normally make a snarky comment whenever someone chooses a seasonal theme for the contest. The next time I get a rigged win, i'm going to suggest " Shrimp on the barbie" as my topic. Here's my entry for that contest:

Hello everyone! New member here, first post, hope I'm doing this right. I'm quite surprised it took so long for someone to post a Super Friends cover!

Thought...what if we held a separate cover contest that excludes entries from either of the big two?

I did a lot of reading offline on this thread the past few days and honestly after much thoughts; and I felt that this contest is becoming an issue to me because people here - I'm not naming anyone here ...
In the voting area where we take a day to vote
For Example: I'm voting for Member for that great George Perez Cover - because you've mentioned the artist name is implying that you vote for the artwork not the content.
Artwork is secondary and the Content of the Cover is PRIMARY.
That and other issues that others issues that I have with this contest that I have to step away from this contest because of I still think it is a biased contest and always will be. I do have the rights to come back if I want to and I will continue to vote for the best cover in this contest of who I felt is the best of the best. That's my solemn promise to all of you here when I'm gone rest of the month of December starting tomorrow and January 2017.
Right Now, my heart right now is that I just can't participate because of the many issues of this contest and the voting section that I look at every Tuesday after Foxley does the tabulations and learn who is the winner is.
I'm speaking from the Heart and always will.
Please refrain from LIKING this post ... Thank You Members.

Thought...what if we held a separate cover contest that excludes entries from either of the big two? Or limit the years from which the covers could be nominated if that's the issue? Do one contest for pre-Bronze Age and another for post-Bronze Age? No matter what, I know the problem is going to be the one that plagued the Little Red Hen: who will do the work for other contests? Which reminds me to thank foxley@foxley for being such a good contest-runner.

Where is that stated anywhere except in your own perceptions? That is a textbook example of bias. It's your bias. For me artwork is every bit as important as the content in the cover contest. Is that my bias? Yep. If someone doesn't want to vote based on the artwork they don't have to, but they don't get to tell me how I should vote or what I should take into consideration when I make my decision what to vote for. Sorry, but the contest is for everyone, it's not going to reshape itself to fit any one person's bias as to what it should be. If we cater to please one member's bias, we will alienate several other members doing so. The contest is what it is. As for dividing up the content/publishers/eras for the contests-for me it works against the very thing that makes the contest interesting, the range of covers we see each week that members post. We had a suggestion for a modern comics cover contest in he modern comics section a few weeks back that I think like 2 people responded to. The more you carve it up, the less participation you will have for each Take a look at the Hall of Fame of winners-there is a wide spread of genres, publishers and eras there. It's not all big 2 super-heroes that win. I think the core of the problem here is people take this personally. It's a cover contest (or should be) not a member contest. Even if I vote for the cover you submitted, I am not voting for you the member. I would have voted for the cover even if someone else had posted it that week. If I don't vote for the cover you posted, it's not a rejection of you the member or even a comment at all about the member. That said, I think I am done talking about the contest. -M

I'll agree with the honorable Mr. mrp and say-Leave The Contest As It Is
And if someone can't deal with it, well, don't deal with it. Simple

Yeah--apart from establishing the 10-year time frame and the posting guidelines, the only "rule" is:
- Vote by posting the name of the poster whose cover best fits the theme or that you simply like the most.
What's so hard about that?

I'll admit, I'm only human and I have a bias. If the cover has a picture of pudding on it, you win my vote. In fact, if you take a comic out of your collection, dump a glop of pudding on it, scan it and submit it for the contest, I'll vote for you an entire month.
