What's the deal with this guy? I know who he is and what he's famous for, but why do I keep seeing his name popping up on comic news websites of all places?

Mostly because he's made several public statements about wanting to play Carnage in a Spider-Man movie for Marvel. And Anything Marvel movie related or Hamilton related is good for generating hits which is how sites convince advertisers to pay them and generate money, so Miranda + Hamilton + Spider-Man =money for sites. -M

It's the same reaction I have to the increasing presence of professional wrestlers at comic conventions.

It's the same reaction I have to the increasing presence of professional wrestlers at comic conventions. For many, wrestling is comic book fights come to life, especially in the pre-movie boom days of comics. Muscle bound dudes in bright costumes beating the crap out of each other-is that comics or wrestling or both? That the core of the appeal for both to a large group of fans. And the sites want people to click on them because of Hamilton even if they are not comic book fans because the number of clicks determines ad rates and they don't care who clicks on them, just that they click, so if they increase traffic by tagging Hamilton because Mirands tangentally remarked about a comic book movie role, they will certainly do so and reap the benefits of added traffic even if not a single one of those clicks results in a regular to the site. -M
