Many of us on this forum are reaching the age where many of our heroes or people we grew up watching are passing away. Which bummed you out the most?

That list. That's a real list. What a dismal year THIS was. Begone 2016! I reject you!

For me, it's Darwyn Cooke who not on this list and he was a great artist and one of my favorites ...

While I can't say that one death upset me more than another, at least among the celebrities whose work I was familiar with-- there was one death this year that greatly disturbed me, and that's Christina Grimmie who was murdered by a crazy fan after a concert in Orlando. She was only 22. I had been unfamiliar with her until reading of her death in the newspaper.
Only two days later, the massacre at the Pulse club took place in the same city, killing 49 people who simply wanted to have a good time. While not on topic for this thread, nevertheless a horrifying event that hasn't left my mind to this day. A reminder of the extremes bigotry can lead to.

Why is Leonard Cohen not on the list?

So many of them upset me, but as for the one that affected me the most, Alan Rickman is the choice, because I have an 11 year-old Harry Potter fanatic that had to process it as well.
Prince and David Bowie were a shock as well, since they weren't that old, whereas with folks like Leonard Cohen, Ali, and Arnie, they had lived long, rich lives, and while their passings were sad, they weren't completely unexpected.

Hard to choose from that depressing list but I went with Muhammad Ali, who became a personal hero of mine after he gave up his title rather than serve in Vietnam. Man had integrity... and some big ol' 'nads.

This is the worst list that ever had to be. For me, hands down, is David Bowie. Not that the others did not upset me, but his stung the most, and set the mood for the rest of the year, and the other deaths just kicked me while I was already down.

Prince, for sure. I've been a fan since I was a kid.

I went with Bowie too, while Gene Wilder and Allan Rickmen were pretty bad too Bowie was just a larger part of my life. I mean, my mother used to sing me Bowie songs as lullabies to me growing up so that should give you the scope.

Prince, for sure. I've been a fan since I was a kid. I remember being very, VERY young (5-7 years old?) and putting on roller skates (the metal kind you'd put over your shoes that had leather straps), and skating around my friend's garage with her, to "Purple Rain". Oh, lordy. I'm really sad now.

I can't decide. But the three I can't decide between aren't on the list.
Guy Clark - One of my favorite singer-songwriters of all time. Never a mainstream success, he was a songwriter's songwriter. Dublin Blues and The Cape are simply brilliant...as are any number of his other songs.
Darwyn Cooke - At one point I was ready to turn the keys to the DCU over to Cooke. New Frontier is amazing. Still better is his issue of Solo...possibly my favorite single issue of all time. And his adaptation of the Parker novels was incredible. Taken from us far too soon.
John Glenn - The embodiment of the American explorer, pioneer and space-hero. I teared up when I found out Glenn had passed.

Definitely Darwyn Cooke.
I weep to think of the great work the world of comics will never see.

For me, Ali and Glenn were heroes; that makes their deaths more significant, personally. There were several celebrity deaths that really bummed me out, as being sad to hear. Darwyn Cooke was startling. It's been a bad year, for my girlfriend, as she is a big fan of Emerson, Lake and Palmer, and we lost Keith Emerson and Greg Lake this year. Add Bowie and Prince to that (though that was more my sphere of music.
However, the most significant death for us was our cat. That hurt.
