This one is hard. I was brought down by Alan Rickman, David Bowie, and John Glenn most.
Bowie hit hard because he was all over the tabloids at mywork and most of this year was spent was an upfront cashier where the tabloids are kept. I really liked him a lot and I just kept having his passing right in my face.
But I loved Rickman too. He was an amazing actor and I adored so many of his movies. He was the type of actor that made me want to watch even romance movies just to see him. I know it's kinda hypocritical, but he wasn't present in the tabloids around here, and I was angry about that. I mean no I don't like tabloids but he deserved something. Bowie received eulogies full kind words in these magazines, interviews with people who loved him, collector's editions that were full of things about his life and his accomplishments, but Rickman was nowhere. And that didn't set right. And I know it's not something you want plastered all over but I wanted him to have those kind words, those magazines dedicated to things he did in life. Like Bowie did.
And Glenn? I haven't heard much of anything. His passing was hushed despite how much impact he's had in this world. Where did I learn of his passing? A comedy app I use! I follow someone who adores science and that's where I learned of this. Maybe it's too soon to be angry, but I'm still angry about it.
I apologize if this offends anyone, I really don't mean to.

I voted for Gene Wilder. He was a funny humble person who just faded into his retirement after a good career and the loss of Gilder Ratner. I understand he remarried but it made him more the likeable person that he battled with her during her succumbing to cancer.

It was a close toss-up among Leonard Cohen, Gene Wilder, and Muhammed Ali for me. I loved Cohen's music, and I loved Ali's convictions, but, in the end, I just loved Gene Wilder. Period.

While doing the research for this thread, I was surprised to learn that Van Williams( Green Hornet ) had passed away. Did he do anything of note besides that show?

Prior to the Hornet, he co-starred in the detective series "Hawaiian Eye." He also played the killer in the pilot for Columbo. Cei-U! I summon the TV c.v.!

For me, Ali and Glenn were heroes; that makes their deaths more significant, personally. There were several celebrity deaths that really bummed me out, as being sad to hear. Darwyn Cooke was startling. It's been a bad year, for my girlfriend, as she is a big fan of Emerson, Lake and Palmer, and we lost Keith Emerson and Greg Lake this year. Add Bowie and Prince to that (though that was more my sphere of music. However, the most significant death for us was our cat. That hurt. Emerson's death by suicide was particularly sad because of the circumstances: reportedly, he feared he wouldn't be able to perform to expectations on an upcoming tour because of nerve damage to his hands, and his depression is thought to have been exacerbated by harsh comments from online "fans".

I really hope that turns out not to be true, as it sounds very "Movie of the Week." Keith deserves better than to be eaten by trolls (shiver).
