It's been a little tense around here lately so let's lighten the mood with some holiday cheer! What are your favorite and least favorite Christmas songs? My favorite: Least favorite (Jeez, what a depressing song...): Christmas Shoes is the worst, most depressing song ever. White Christmas is among the best. Of course I also like novelty songs like "The 12 Pains of Christmas" and "I Farted on Santa Claus". And "I Want a Hippopotamus For Christmas" that I used to play to torment a co-worker who hated it.

My favorite is "Silent Night."
The only one I really hate is Anne Murray's version of "Good King Wenceslas." If I can get to December 20 or so without hearing it somewhere, it always feels like the best Christmas ever.

"I Saw Mommy ..." is one of my least favourites, which is too bad, because I think it has a nice melody, but it's ruined for me by the saccharine lyrics. Usually I'm able to ignore the words to a song and just enjoy the music, but for some reason that one obtrudes itself too much for me to block it out. I like Christmas music in general, but only during Christmas season. It's still a bit too early for me to get in the mood for it - I even think we start our 12 days of Chrstmas thread too early in December! But I did hear a nice one while out shopping yesterday, a beautifully understated rendition of an old standard, "Christmas Memories". After searching for and finding it on youtube when I got home, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that it's a quite recent recording: Not so great when you hear it every day, for a month, for more than one season, like I did, when I worked for Barnes & Noble. No how matter how much I loved any song, after it was in our rotation for a month or more, I was ready to start practicing skeet shooting with it.
