It's been a little tense around here lately so let's lighten the mood with some holiday cheer! What are your favorite and least favorite Christmas songs? My favorite: Least favorite (Jeez, what a depressing song...):

I can't post videos of them, but my favorite secular Christmas song is "Christmas Wrapping" by The Waitresses.
Favorite contemporary religious Christmas song is "The Night Before Christmas" by Brandon Heath.
Favorite traditional Christmas song is "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing".
As detailed in another thread, my least favorite secular Christmas songs are "Last Christmas" by Wham and "Wonderful Christmastime" by Paul McCartney, the latter of which regularly appears on Worst 5 lists for Christmas songs all time. It's terrible.
And yes, that "Christmas Shoes" song is absolutely horrible. There is a Christian radio station I listen to that touts their music as "positive and encouraging", and the first time my wife heard them play that song, she said " that song isn't positive or encouraging. It's completely depressing."

It's terrible. Wow, Wonderful Christmastime is actually my second favorite after Jingle Bell Rock!

Doesn't look like any topic is safe to discuss any more

I thought everyone's favorite Christmas song was "I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas".

My Worst Christmas SongI Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus - by the Jackson 5 (With Lyrics) I like how, halfway through the song, MJ starts channeling his inner Tweety. "I did! I did taw Mommy Kidding Tandy Claus!" I'm partial to the schmaltzy, sad Christmas pop songs, like this one: Also, 'Please Come Home For Christmas' by the Eagles, which apparently is so reviled that it can't even be found on Youtube, except for karaoke versions and a Bon Jovi cover. Part of why I found new appreciation for 'Please Come Home' is that I associate it with scene 28 of the fan movie "Our Robocop Remake". "Please send more organic paste which tastes like baby food."

I have several favorites: Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, Away in a Manger, Sleigh Ride (when performed by the Ronettes. It is on a 60s Christmas album!
Also like any Christmas songs by Ray Conniff and his singers.
Least favorites: Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer

Found the scene, though in the title of the video it's identified as 'Scene 31':
The version featured is performed by Southside Johnny, and the original is by Charles Brown.

I thought everyone's favorite Christmas song was "I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas". I was celebrating Christmas with my wife's family this past weekend and the topic of this song came up. My one sister-in-law HATES it, so to torture her (and have some fun in the process), one of her daughters and I started singing it, not in the normal way but with the same breathy, borderline inappropriate voice as "Santa Baby". It was both hilarious and disturbing.

Favorite: Least favorite: you can name about any cover from the last 15 to 20 years and it will fit. Especially when they butcher a song made famous by someone who could sing without electronic enhancement, like: You can't top singers like Nat King Cole, Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, Doris Day, Mel Torme, Burl Ives and the likes of the classics. They had such amazing voices. Even when you get a good voice today, it's over produced or pointless effects added. With over 20 years of retail under my belt, I come back to one Christmas album, every year, as an antidote: Rhino put this out and it punctures all the bad, sappy, horrible attempts at Christmas songs. You can't beat El Vez doing "Feliz Navidad" (Feliz Navinada), Mojo Nixon's "Christmas Christmas" (a rework of Louie Louie) or the Damned's 'There Ain't No Sanity Claus." Just the ticket after you have spent hours cleaning up after barbarian hordes of shoppers, who seem to forget that "goodwill to all men" includes the clerks at the store.

Faves: For pure silly fun: Santa Claus has a Hot Rod by Brian Setzer Orchestra.
You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch by Thurl Ravenscroft
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer by Dean Martin.
Silver and Gold by Burl Ives from Rudolph the Bankin/Rass Special
Baby it's Cold Outside by Dean Martin
Jingle Bells by Diana Krall
Least favorite: Christmas Shoes if only because it is such a sad, depressing song even though the story within touches the heart.
Any version of the Little Drummer boy which doesn't have drums in it, instead using horns or guitars or other such substitutes. He's a drummer boy, so why not use drums in the song?!?

These are probably my four favorite Christmas songs, which is number one changes at any moment though because they're all great: "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" by Bruce Springsteen
"Ho, Ho, Ho and a Bottle of Rum" by Jimmy Buffett
"God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen/We Three Kings" by the Barenaked Ladies
And I don't know who sang it but I've always loved this version of Joy to the World from Will Venton's Claymation Christmas

"I Saw Mommy ..." is one of my least favourites, which is too bad, because I think it has a nice melody, but it's ruined for me by the saccharine lyrics. Usually I'm able to ignore the words to a song and just enjoy the music, but for some reason that one obtrudes itself too much for me to block it out.
I like Christmas music in general, but only during Christmas season. It's still a bit too early for me to get in the mood for it - I even think we start our 12 days of Chrstmas thread too early in December!
But I did hear a nice one while out shopping yesterday, a beautifully understated rendition of an old standard, "Christmas Memories". After searching for and finding it on youtube when I got home, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that it's a quite recent recording:
