Being very out of date with all things related to the Black Panther, I just got the Epic collection (or whatever) of Reginald Hudlin’s take on the character.
I was susprised that JrJr only drew the first story arc of the book... I was under the mistaken impression that he had been the refular artist on the book. Oh, well. Still enjoying what we got.
Hudlin’s complete retconning of Wakanda as a country having developed advanced technology well in advance of the rest of the world works beautifully for me. What a great concept for a sci-fi series, and in this case for a superhero comic-book! I don’t even mind that it flies in the face of the previous Marvel history... Let’s just pretend that during the recent semi reboot of the MU, Wakanda’s history was dramatically altered! The same holds true for the existence of T’Challa’s sister Shuri, for the revamped telling of King T’Chaka’s death, and for the new origin of Klaw. (I take it that in the current MU, Klaw is no longer made of sound?)
Looking at JrJr’s art I was suddenly intrigued by the concept of what he would do with Conan. He came close when the X-Men faced Kulan Gath, and I’d love him to handle the real thing!

Stopped by the lcs this afternoon and came home with my meager pull list-
Doctor Strange: Damnation #2 Rise of the Black Panther #3 Doctor Star and the Kingdom of Lost Tomorrow #1 (spinning off of Lemire's Black Hammer stuff)
while there I also snagged a copy of Kirkman's new sci-fi book from Image, Oblivion Song #1

I just read through the trade for the 2009-2011 Zeb Wells/Diogenes Neves reboot of the New Mutants, which contained most of the first 21 issues, omitting a couple that were heavy into a crossover collected elsewhere. It started out iffy but had quite a satisfying conclusion; I may write it up at greater detail in the future. (I find myself saying this about quite a few books.)

However, the series that I posted about ended just seven years ago, and the thread you linked is in the "Classic Comics" section, not the modern section. I can repost it in the modern comics section if I need to, or we can just be content that in a few years, it will be ten years old...

Stopped by the LCS today and picked up some stuff to try, mostly some of the new DC Age of Heroes titles.
Got Terrifics #1 Silencer #1-2 Sideways #1-2
also picked up Dark Knights Metal #1-5 as many folks around here I know from the con scene have recommended it to me.
The only thing on my pull was the latest issue of Mr Miracle.
My shop didn't get in the new Darwyn Cooke DC trade, so I special ordered it and should get it in a week or so.

Is anyone reading Red Hood and the Outlaws with Bizarro and Artemis ?
I love both those characters and am tempted to buy it despite not loving Scott Lobdell's work.

Frank is back! Xerxes, in glorious wide format: Yes, the critics are right - it's is more of the same (300). I don't mind one bit - if the original is good, you are up for more? - by all means!

Made the trip out to my LCS this afternoon, Picked up the new edition of The DC Art of Darwyn Cooke I am not sure if it is an expanded edition of Graphic Ink or a sequel to it. I do know there is material in it that is not in Graphic Ink. I also picked up the new Titan edition of Druillet's Lone Sloane Gail, and a few monthlies... Curse of Brimstone #1 Xerxes: Fall of the House of Darius #1 Rise of the Black Panther #4 Doctor Star #2 (a spin off of the BlacK Hammer stuff by Jeff Lemire) -M

That's discouraging if there's a lot of overlap. Doctor Star #2 is sooooooo freakin' good.

That's discouraging if there's a lot of overlap. Doctor Star #2 is sooooooo freakin' good. I don't actually have Graphic Ink, which is why I picked this one up. There are supposedly some covers and Cooke's first story form New Talent Showcase 19 that weren't in Graphic Ink (if I remember the solicitation I read correctly), but if I can find a table of content list for Graphic Ink I will gladly let you know for certain what's overlapped and what's new (I'd like to know to to decide if Graphic Ink is worth tracking down in addition to this). -M
