Well of course I've read Ten Nights of the Beast. What kind of self respecting Starlin fan hasn't? I bet you Icctrombone has too. And I'll try to read it too and post some thoughts.

I'm ashamed to say that I've never read this storyline. In my defense, I'm not a Batman fan and I will buy anything that Starlin draws but not everything he writes. I'm looking forward to reading your review.

Basically, he wanted to put the end of the talk of SDI, Strategic Defense Initiative - better known to us as STAR WARS of which President Reagan one of the 10 people that he wanted to put to death. I consider him more a terrorist aiming to protect Soviets intentions to rule the world until Batman has something to say about it. I only know Batman 417 and 419 well enough to get something to say about this 4 Part story involving KGBeast and his evil ways to kill important people in the United States alone. I find him very difficult to deal with and I think that he killed more than 10 individuals in his quest to put the end of SDI. So, let's begin with Batman 417 ... of which his own government is working ways to get better relationship with USA sent Knyazev on a mission to kill 10 of the top ranking US officials to put the end of SDI Program. These include top scientists, civilian administrators, key military figures, and important politicians, the last of whom being then-U.S. President Ronald Reagan, scheduled to visit Gotham City. Despite Batman's best efforts, the KGBeast eliminated nearly all of his targets. He (KGBeast) single handling his ruthlessness by poisoning an entire banquet, killing over 100 people, just to make sure that his target would die. This story has a grindstone appeal that was so ruthless and demanding that I just have a hard time describing it. Later on, in this crazy and ruthless tale it was highlighted in the fact that beyond comprehension that I just can't imagine what is going on here. In Batman 419 the Unthinkable happen ... KGBeast was almost trapped by Batman himself and it was so unbelievable that he literally took an axe .... Batman snared the KGBeast's left wrist with the Batrope. Rather than be captured, the Beast grabbed a nearby axe and chopped off the restrained hand showcasing in the two panels below. It was unthinkable. My own mind, it was beyond craziness and that's why I consider him a very difficult villain to overcome and all that. I just find Batman 419 so shocking and some of the fans of this series consider it a very low point in Batman's career as a crimefighter that trying his best to stop him. One of these days, I'm going to try to re-read this four issues of Batman and get a better understanding of it. That's why I consider KGBeast one of most unpredictable villain in Batman's long history.

Just sat and read all four issues, and I agree with Jugger about how ruthless and violent the Beast was. I guess I had forgotten that pretty much everyone that encounter the Beast ended up dead. Even cutting a squad of GCPD down with a fire axe. In which he used that same axe that Jugger posted to chop off his hand. Even Robin took out the Beast's kamikaze assistant on an attempt to kill someone. A lot of violence, and some in pretty gruesome ways for a comic coded book. Something I guess I take for granted having started comics in the 90's when that was the way to sell comics. Whether they were coded or not.
The Aparo art, of course, is top notch. But he is like "the" Batman artist for me, despite his work not even being close to the first I'd seen reading Batman comics. So no complaints in the art department.
And as the story goes, I'd have a complaint, unless I am misinterpreting. But the ending, what comes of the Beast, after four issues of death and destruction from a killer with skills rivaling or surpassing the Batman, it's a great WTF moment, and I am really surprised I completely forgot about it. It's a very weak ending that really does take some sting out of the Beast as a character and the building up of the plot and the overwhelming toll it takes on Batman.
But I will agree with the forward in the TPB that "before Bane there was the KGBeast". There is a lot of Bane in the KGBeast, as inspiration it feels like. But I think KGBeast still somehow, though maybe forgotten, had more of an impact on Batman in those four issues. And he didn't have near the help that Bane did in dragging down Batman.
It makes me wonder if I will see Deacon Blackfire on this list. I always think of him as the first to "break" the Bat. Though The Cult and Ten Nights of the Beast both by Starlin in 1988, make it hard to figure which came first. But The Cult was a stronger story in my opinion than TNotB.

adamwarlock2099Deacon Blackfire unfortunately did not make the list. The Beast was a difficult villain to write for and I'm so sorry that I did not do a great job with it because I know bit of pieces of Batman 417 and 419 - I read all the four issues but my memory of 418 and 420 is vague and that's why I have a hard time dealing with it. I agree with you that the art is top notch and action packed - Aparo Art made it great as it's comes. The reason why KGBeast made the list because he reminded me of Bane and Bane is on this list and you have to wait for it.

@juggernaut
Your write up was great. The scans got me pumped to read it. So I brought it to work to read on my lunch hour before I posted because I too couldn't remember much about it but the similarities to Bane. That way everything was fresh on my mind because they don't stay in my head very long. :-)
By the way I'm enjoying your list. Thanks for taking the time to do it.

#35 Harley Quinn, Harleen Frances QuinzelFirst Appearance: Batman Adventures #12 Anytime you have a villain that was personally involved with the Joker and one of the Joker most trusted associate - you'll have a first rate superior villain by the name of Harley Quinn. She made this list on two conditions - Batman, Tha Animated Series and the short term Television Series - Birds of Prey of which it was a decent and very well made Television Series involving Batman's Daughter and Oracle that was being played by Dina Meyer. I was so sad that this Series did not do so well and I was a fan of it. This show lasted 13 Episodes and each of the passing week - the ratings of this show continues to drop and it's was gone for good. I was very sad when it was gone. Left to Right: Ashley Scott (Huntress), Dina Meyer (Batgirl, Oracle), and Rachel Skarsten (Daughter of Black Canary, a telepath) Anyway, I'm going to talk about Mia Sara who played Harleen Quinzel who happen to be Harley Quinn in disguise; she uses her degree in Psychiatry to deceive her clients to reveal information for her own evil gains and that alone causes a lot of friction with Huntress being played by Ashley Scott who is the daughter of Batman on this series talking about Detective Jesse Reese who is Shemar Moore of the Criminal Minds TV Series. She was crafty, diabolical, and very scheming to get the information that she wants for her own evil gains. I consider her character on that show one of the most intriguing and well thought of how they crafted her in that situations that she was in. Short You Tube of her portrayal of Harley Quinn. Mia Sara was excellent and I find her just the right woman to play the part and I was literally looking forward seeing her when she possibly can; she was sexy, confident, and downright evil. Many fans that watched this series find it not everyone cup of tea and I find it quite good and I just don't understand why everyone did not like it one bit and many of them consider it one of the worst adaptations for Television period.

Sadistic Lady - Mia Sara
What this four part You Tube and you can she can be a handful for a heroine by the Name of Huntress. I really missed this show and more coming tomorrow about Harley Quinn in Batman, The Animated Series.
Mia Sara was excellent in this show and I kind of like her costume a bit - a bit more modern and more adult-like as well.

Harley Quinn in Batman, The Animated SeriesI just love this animated gif! Again, she was trained by the Joker and anytime you have someone been trained by the Clown Prince of Crime ... got to be deadly and I just wanted to share these three You Tubes showcasing Harley Quinn at her best in Batman, The Animated Series. She is my favorite in that series and rightly so. If I had to do a list showing all the characters on that Animated Series she will be in the top 5 for sure. Anyway, enjoy this three part You Tubes ... showing the likes of Harley Quinn at her very best!

Suicide Squad - Harley QuinnI just having a hard time accepting this movie and I just saw this movie at a friend place a month ago and I wanted to check out Jay Leto as the Joker and her as well. I was disappointed in Jay Leto performance and I was given a lukewarm performance by Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and she was the best actor/actress in this dismal movie that I consider below average in my own personal judgment. I think the costume is too bizarre and too colorful in my own personal taste. I tried my best to enjoy it but this movie wasn't my cup of tea and I just wanted to add my thoughts in the last minute and sorry all the fans here that like Suicide Squad and I just don't buy it at all. This movie out of 5 stars ... gets a barely a 2 at best. I would give it a 1 if wasn't for the performance of Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Note: I'm moving onto Number 34 next on my list and I'll start that either Sunday and/or Monday.

#34 Blockbuster, Mark DesmondFirst Appearance: Detective Comics #345 Outside of the big four Villains, The Joker, Penguin, The Riddler, and Catwoman. Blockbuster was the first Batman Villain that I had a great fascination of because of the Playing Card in Batman Card Game back in 1966. At first, I thought he was another Solomon Grundy of which I had some fascination of and having said that - he Mark Desmond was totally opposite of him because of his background as a Chemist that accidently transform him into a brute of tremendous strength an power. I will be sharing more of him tomorrow, but the reason that I'm showing him today - I wanted to makeup for lost time because of my issues with my PC. Mark Desmond is an unique character and one of the most deadliest character alive that's has the ferocity that very few villains has. He is tough to take down and that why he's on this list.
