Just wondering if there is a term for describing the original old-school white faces for Disney characters and the newer pink flesh-colored faces. Also wondering if there's a story behind when/why this change was made. I find it particularly interesting when comic artists use the pink-flesh version on the cover and a modernized white-face on the interior. So, anyone out there know the story behind these shifts?

I would guess that since the early Mickey cartoons were in black & white, the change was made to play up the ol' Technicolor or "humanize" the mouse (maybe both?).

I believe the first instance of Mickey with a "pink" face was around 1938. If you look at Fantasia (1940), he no longer sports the white face. I keep forgetting it was that early on. Thanks for the reminder!
