Detective Comics #948 Written by James Tyrion IV and Marguerite Bennett Art by Ben Oliver Summary: Batwoman and Batman investigate the installation that has been built up around the giant monster that fell into the bay. Plot: With Bennett on board this story is sort of a back door pilot for her upcoming run on Batwoman and i have to say it could turn out to be pretty good. I say good and not fantastic because although I enjoyed the flashback to her past interspersed with the current story and the characterization of Kate I didn't like how connected to the wider DC universe with the plot here tied into both the terrible Night of the Monster Men story and the mostly decent Colony storyline from earlier on in Detective. It's not that the connections themselves are bad, this story feels more interesting than either but what i loved previously about Batwoman was how she had her very own corner of the world that wasn't hyper connected with everything else and if this issue is any hint at what is to come that won't be the case going forward. It's not a deal breaker but it does make me a little less excited for the new book. Art: Oliver's sense of movement and weight is fantastic, giving a very life like quality to the book but what i really liked were the seagull monsters which were a fun mix between bird and man.

Birds of Prey #6Written by Julie and Shawna Benson Art by Claire Roe Summary: If you thought the revelation that the new Oracle was a giant fanboy was a twist then the revelation about who Fenice is will blow you away! Spoiler Alert: The 70's style cover gives it away. Plot: With the "Who is Oracle?" team origin story concluded in this issue it really feels like the Bensons will really be free to open up the throttle and really get things moving. The characterization remained strong in this issue and the relationships with in the team really sing. While the story in the long haul was a slog in the middle the set up and introduction of the characters was fun so I'm really excited to see where it goes. Art: The art continues to be fairly house style, nothing really exciting, nothing horribly offensive either although there was one gaffe at the end where they seemed to think Black Canary was talking but the actual dialog made it clear that the speaker was Babs. Grade:6/10

Wonder Woman #14: Year One concludes and what a conclusion it is! Nicola Scott draws a very menacing Ares--creepier than the Perez reboot (no offense intended). DC and Rucka seem intent on getting WW right with this umpteenth reboot and I have very much enjoyed Year 1. Good to see Steve Trevor back and although WW assists him with getting out of trouble, he's not a clueless, helpless character. It's interesting too that in a comic about a female hero, Steve is the one constantly getting his shirt ripped off.(a big change from old comics where a hero's girl was constantly in trouble and losing her clothes). Rucka has taken elements from Wonder Woman's 75 years and blended them into a perfect modern retelling. 10/10

I loved everything about it.

Superwoman #6: reading this issue was a task. Tons of narration, several panels crammed into the page, word balloons galore, and lots of things going on--but nothing really happens. I'd drop this book but I read today that both supergirl and superwoman are tying in with a big Superman event in a few months. 0/10

New Super-Man #7 It seems this book is taking a turn.... last issue, we had the Multiplicity tie in, and it seemed Kong and the Justice League of China might start tying back into the DCU, here, we get the opposite. Sure, Lex Luthor makes an appearance, but otherwise it seems they are building their own stuff. Kong wants I Ching to train him to use his Chi better, but he has a long way to before he is humble enough to even consider his teaching. We find that Bat-Man was the winner/best student of the academy of the Bat, but someone thought the guy that came in 2nd should have one, so the duel is own. We also get a hit of a Green Lantern of China, or perhaps that the ministry of Self-Reliance is trying to mimic power rings. Should be a good next storyline. Plot: 5/5 Art: 4/5

Couple other comments on stuff that's been reviewed already:
Titans was alot better, but stil feels like Wally West and his Amazing Friends, rather than the Titans. Yes, Donna and Roy got some time (Though I totally do NOT 'ship them, as the kids say), and we see a bit of Dick and Garth (is Aqualad Garth still?, or is he just Tempest now? I lose track).. almost nothing of Lillith (which is fine with me) and a bit of the Duncans (who seem to be important soon), but Wally still feels like the star. The bit with Superman was very, very cool ,though, and I'll admit I geeked out a little bit seeing the new Titans Tower.
Gotham Academy, sadly, seems to have a bit run it's course...as much as I love the characters, they need to start developing some stuff or cancel it... just doing the same thing over and over again is going to get old fast, and even the characters themselves seem tired of it.
