I'm currently rereading The Savage Tales of Solomon Kane collection by REH and was wondering if the comic adaptations, or original stories featuring Kane, are of interest? I'm a big fan of Conan the Barbarian and Savage Sword of Conan and might consider reading some of these in the near future. Has Dark Horse collected most of the old Marvel stories like they have with Conan?

Even though I don't think Marvel ever found a definitive artist for Solomon Kane like they did for Conan and Kull, there were definitely some excellent Solomon Kane stories published by Marvel in the 70s. However, they tended to be scattered here and there in different mags and series and I don't know if they've ever been collected.

It's a great collection, and well worth tracking down though I got it digitally. if you're not willing to plunk down 30 bucks for it though Dark Horse put out a smaller collected edition of the Marvel stories called the Chronicles of Solomon Kane; it isn't as all inclusive as Slam's edition but it gives you the best bits and you can get it for only ten bucks. More recently Dark Horse put out some adaptations of their own; Scott Allie adapts "The Castle of the Devil" and "Death's Black Riders" and later Bruce Jones did "Red Shadows" and "Skulls in the Stars" and both writers did fantastically.

The artwork has kept me from reading many of the Dark Horse REH books. Not that it's that bad, usually, but in most cases it just doesn't grab me. I read a few of the Busiek/Cary Nord Conans, but not much after that. I do like the look of Tomas Giorello's work but haven't gotten round to reading anything, for some reason. I wish they'd put him or someone else I like on Kull, my favourite REH character. I haven't seen any DH Kull that I liked the artwork of, yet.

The Chronicle's of Solomon Kane collects only the color issues Marvel did of Solomon Kane, none of the Black and White stories. Both are truly superb buys though with wonderful adaptations and artwork.

I really liked Mario Guevara's work on Kane for DH was pretty fantastic: There's a soft, moody, picturesque look to his work that really fits the feel of Kane's world. Although I think my favorite, art wise, was Guy Davis' work in adapting All the Damned Souls at Sea, though for the life of me i can't find any images online of it.

Yeah, ever since I got Savage Tales of Solomon Kane in 2004 (first time I read the stories) I've yet to see a version of Solomon Kane that I like nearly as much as Gary Gianni's version. Some of the old artwork that I've seen portrays Kane as being a bit too handsome for my taste.

Always thought Bret Blevin's art in the Marvel mini-series suited Kane perfectly. Has that lean and lanky and kind of gaunt haunted exhausted look. Someone who has traveled the world and fought the evils and monsters of the time as Kane has should seem to carry the weight of the worlds burdens upon himself...

I Googled some of Blevin's Kane art and I liked it a lot. Lean, lanky, gaunt and world weary are good descriptions. Exactly what Kane should look like. Seems he penciled a limited series in 1985. I really need to get these collected editions.

The sample looks promising, though the colour palette is a bit limited - purposely, I suppose, for the dour Kane's grim world.

It definitely has a muted pallet, but I think it works well to set the mood.

I read the Dark Horse reprints of Marvel's '70's/'80's Soloman Kane comics - both the b&w thick Trade & the smaller color Trade. Great stuff! I remember getting some of the Soloman Kane mini-series back in the mid-'80's (The color series) - which was reprinted in the color trade; this color series is my favorite story-line featuring SK. Very interesting character & setting, and it's too bad REH didn't write more stories featuring SK. There was a SK movie back in 2009; I never saw this - I guess the DVD may be OOP these days: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solomon_Kane_(film)
