So, I have a question-- One of my bands just released a new CD. Would it be considered to be in "bad taste" if I were to post a track or two here, along with a link to our Bandcamp page? I don't want to ruffle any feathers, and I'm not asking anyone to buy it-- but I'd like for you to hear a track or two.
If this isn't the right thread for that, I welcome suggestions for a more appropriate thread.

It's fine to post it here. I've posted tracks I've recorded here before. Linking to your bandcamp page would also be fine since you're a regular member and not a newly signed up spammer. I think we'd only have a problem if you repeatedly posted the link or were really going for the hard sell and hassling people to buy your wares. We do have rules against buying and selling merchandise here, but just posting the link is fine.

As a loser who's failed miserably to learn to play any instrument, I always love hearing people who can actually make music.

Post it! As a loser who's failed miserably to learn to play any instrument, I always love hearing people who can actually make music. Buy a triangle and wait for your moment to shine. My youngest son, who is a percussionist, tells me that the triangle is deceptively tricky to play. Apparently one of the hardest things he had to learn how to do was a triangle roll for a certain piece of music. He goes back and forth about the cymbals and the bass drum being the easiest.

Most listened to songs of 2020
#39 - L. A. Freeway - Guy Clark
We're back with Guy's version of his song having previously seen Jerry Jeff Walker's version.
This is one of Guy's classic songs.
"Pack up all your dishes Make note of all good wishes And say goodbye to the landlord for me That son of a bitch has always bored me"

Most listened to songs of 2020
#38 - All American Singer - Zephaniah OHora
This was the first single from OHora's new album to hit Spotify. That fact, plus the fact that it took me a number of listens to decide how I felt about it, largely explain how high the song is on my list. Ultimately, I've decided that while it's a decent song, I don't love it.
This is OHora's response to political discourse through song in the current climate. And ultimately it comes down to, I'm a singer and I'm not going to take any hard positions. Which is okay as a personal belief but makes for weak sauce as a song.
So this one is pretty unlikely to ever hit the list again, much less this high.

I think we'd only have a problem if you repeatedly posted the link or were really going for the hard sell and hassling people to buy your wares. We do have rules against buying and selling merchandise here, but just posting the link is fine. OK, a little backstory first. I've been playing in two different bands for quite some time. The oldest band, The Secret Commonwealth, is a Celtic/Americana acoustic-electric band that has been together since 1993. I am one of three founding members and primary songwriters, and we've played together consistently for 28 years, and built quite a following in Tennessee and a few other parts of the mid-South. The band has ranged in size over the years, anywhere between 3 and 8 members. The current lineup consists of 5 members, all multi-instrumentalists and vocalists. Depending on the material, I might be called on to sing, play acoustic or electric guitar, mandolin, bass or percussion. Our mix of material consists of about 40% originals, 35% traditional and 25% cover tunes. More on that band later if interest warrants. The second band is known as The Exotic Ones. This band is a slight offshoot of The Secret Commonwealth, in that it shared the same three founding members. We put this band together in 2003 as a side project and it just took off and has been going ever since. The Exotic Ones tend to defy description or pigeonholing in terms of musical genre. We draw primarily from garage-rock, surf and 60-70's hard-rock influences, but with vintage pop-culture-geek flavor. Lots of our songs tend to be about 50's-60's B-movie horror/sci-fi movies, TV shows, and the like-- "Monster-nerd garage rock", if you will. However we also throw in occasional rockabilly, country and soul influences as well. There are also 5 members in this group. We all write and we all sing. In this band, I take up about 1/3 of the lead vocal duties, and play electric guitar, lap-steel guitar, harmonica, and the the occasional keyboard and theremin (yes, I said theremin). I am also one of the primary songwriters in this band, and our material consists of about 65% originals and 35% cover tunes. So, I'm posting a song from The Exotic Ones' latest CD, which we released digitally in Nov. 2020, but just released physical copies in January 2021. The following song is an original tune, however I did not write this one. But I DO sing the lead vocal and play the harmonica on it. This song was written as sort of an homage to the Chicago-blues-influenced Yardbirds-style rave-up songs of the mid-60's, but it's a little more aggressive in tone.
I hope you like it. If you would like to hear another one, I'll post one that I actually wrote, but I don't want to go overboard, and I don't want to make this "all about me." I'd just like to share some indy music for people who like that sort of thing.

Nice track, tartanphantom. I can definitely hear the Yardbirds influence in this. Cool gravely blues-rock vocal on it too. The track has a really nice, fun groove; I could definitely imagine this going down a storm in a bar.

Already knew I dug World's Finest, but the B side is surprisingly great too. Glad you like it. The B-side is "Corn Circles", right? My memory's hazy, but I think that's correct. That was the oldest song of ours that we ever officially released. It was written by me and the band's guitarist waaaay back in 1991, so it was already 6 years old when that single came out. Of course, back then, crop circles were very mysterious phenomena that were causing a sensation in the media, with some believing that they were made by visiting extra-terrestrials. Whereas nowadays we know it's just attention-seeking d**ks with too much time on their hands. The song is about hanging out with friends and cute girls in the corn circles on a balmy summer's evening, as a remedy for vague feelings of existential angst. The rather simplistic chorus of "I'm going down, I'm going down..." kind of has a double meaning though: it's mostly saying "I'm going down to the corn circles", but secretly, in the back of my mind, it was also meant to be an allusion to oral sex. Here's a link to the song on Spotify in case anyone else is interested in listening to it...
