Check this out: Castlevania Animated Series on NetflixIf you clicked the link, then you read that this will be written by none other than Warren Ellis. How freaking cool is that? I probably would have checked in on this because I am a long-time fan of the video games, but having Warren Ellis attached to it pretty much guarantees that I'll be tuning in.

Never played the games, but I will check this out for Warren's involvement. I am wondering which project codename this is for him, as he gives all his projects codenames so he can refer to them before they are announced and not violate his NDAs. He did say something was getting announced this week in this past week's newsletter though.

OK, so I watched it...
First of all, it's not a 'series' it's a movie that was broken up into 4 (slightly less than) 30 minute episodes, I guess for marketing.
It features Trevor Belmont (the one from the last few video games) as the Belmont in question. I don't love that the church is almost more of a bad guy as Dracula, just because it didn't need to be for the setting, but that's Warren Ellis for you.
They also threw this magical cult called 'the seekers' that I don't really recall, but I do remember a woman in a cloak as a playable character, so I suspect they are from one of the games that I either don't recall or didn't play.
The art is by far the best part. It's in the realistic Anime style which I really like, and is quite good. The fight scenes are really fun to watch, if somewhat ridiculous at times, both for reality and excess gore.
The plot is nearly non-existent (if fact, episode 2 mainly consists of 3 men in a tavern talking about which animals are best to 'spend time' with, who eventually brawl with drunken Trevor), but that's not really the point.
There's some impressive Voice talent (Richard Armitage voices Trevor) but he really phoned it in, IMO. Grant MacTavish is pretty as Dracula though (who was clearly drawn to resemble Ellis). Overall not as good as I hoped, but fun to watch none the less.

Incredibly short, incredibly heavy handed in many parts, etc. Overall, it felt much more like some run of the mill anime/horror series than a legit Castlevania adaptation. I'll probably end up watching the 2nd season to see how it progresses, but seeing as how it isn't going to come out for another year or so...I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if I've totally lost interest by that point either.

The action is pretty fun, but yeah, not a proper series just a movie that was chopped up.

Already renewed for eight more episodes. I thought it was decent. Art was good.
