Okay, I'm confused; it looks like the Vietnam era; but some of the tech is too far advanced and there are some issues with uniforms and equipment. Wikipedia says it's 1973. Hiddleston is supposed to be ex-SAS, having served in Nam; but, the British SAS weren't involved, only the Australian SAS. The M-16s appear to be the A1 version, which appeared after the war, SLJ's boonie hat is a later era design....
Aw hell; it's a movie about a giant monkey stomping things. Got to turn my brain off!
Meanwhile, John C Reilly's character looks like the son of Stephen Collins' Jake Cutter, from Tales of the Gold Monkey.
