Section Zero FacebookKArl Kesel and Tom Grummett are turning to Kickstarter to try to fund a conclusion to Section Zero, the comic they created for Gorilla/Image Comics that had to be cancelled after 3 issues becasue the funding for the imprint fell through. They are actually asking people to help make their video for the Kickstarter page too... It was one of my favorite books, so much potential and I would love to read the rest of it, but... There is No Section Zero -M

Wow, those books came out 17 years ago. I'm still waiting for those missing Brother Power, The Geek issues. We'll probably get the conclusion to Image United first.

I remember those being fun when they came out, I wonder if they still hold up today...and what prompted the continuation so much later.

I remember those being fun when they came out, I wonder if they still hold up today...and what prompted the continuation so much later. They attempted to continue it as a webcomic circa 2012 on Kesel's Mad Genius site, but I cannot find the site any longer. They have wanted to complete it forever, but the situation hasn't been right. I know Kesel sold off a large chunk of his comics collection a while back trying to fund some projects, but I am not sure what ever came of that (you can find lots of youtube vids where his books are offered as he talks up the books with the dealer who is handling the sales. I think it's just at a point where a lot of these vets aren't getting work for the big 2, so are looking at smaller creator-owned books , but don't have the built in following of some of the current big names who used the big 2 as a platform to launch their own brand (I'm thinking Brubaker, Gillen, BK Vaughan, Fraction, etc,), so are having a little difficulty getting the books off the ground and are using things like Kickstarter to get them going. Baron Rude did it to relaunch Nexus, Mandrake did a project that way recently too. They can probably find a publisher, but most creator owned books pay on the back end, not as they are being made, and they have to pay for creative costs (letterers, colorists, editors, etc.) and make their own ends meet until the money form such a project does manifest, so some, like Kesel and Grummett, are turning to projects their fan base already knows to help ease that transition and launch. -M PS I was surprised by the pronunciation of Kesel by Karl in the video, I had been saying wrong for many years.

I think I remember reading somewhere that they were trying to do their version of the Fantastic Four with this book.

I think I remember reading somewhere that they were trying to do their version of the Fantastic Four with this book. I've heard that, though to me it felt more like the Challengers of the Unknown meets the X-Files.

I think I remember reading somewhere that they were trying to do their version of the Fantastic Four with this book. It's really too bad Kesel never got to write Fantasic Four for an extended run. he was always great on fill ins.
