Batman: Year One & Daredevil: Born Again. Sorry, MJ. You have to pick one. That's the point of the thread. You've really painted yourself into a corner with those two, so I don't envy you. It's a bit a of a "Sophie's Choice." Nevertheless. . .

I know it wasn't easy, and Year One is no slouch; however: "There is no corpse. There is no corpse. There is no corpse." is tough to beat.

The second Galactus trilogy by John Byrne from his FF run. I wore those issues out. I've read them over and over. I had him sign those copies years ago and they are the gems of my collection. If ever someone wanted to make the perfect FF movie this would be it. If Marvel got the rights to FF all the cameo characters could be there as well. What a masterpiece. I love the original but Byrne's story is my favorite.

The Tarim war from Conan the barbarian #19-26 for me.
Barry Smith was at the top of his game, the mag was still fresh and brimming with new ideas, Roy Thomas was obviously having a ball mixing history, fantasy and Howardian continuity, and the scope of the storyline was nothing less than operatic. After this, there never was an ambitious ruler to compete with Yezdigerd, a fallen friend to compare to Fafnir, a potential love interest to compare to Red Sonja, or as delightfully a twist as the revelation of the Tarim's identity.

This is a modern comic, but Lobster Johnson: Get the Lobster is probably my favorite comic book story. A fantastic pulp hero adventure story (that ties into both the wider Hellboy universe and previous Lobster Johnson stories in interesting ways), and the art is superb. Another reason why I like this comic so much is because it was one of the first books I ever read that was published by Dark Horse, and that led me to discover both the Hellboy Universe and Usagi Yojimbo, which are now my two favorite worlds in comics. I picked up #2 and #3 in the series at a comic book store in March 2014 (they didn't have #1) after reading the description of #5 in Previews ("The Lobster engages in a firefight with a madman in a biplane on top of a zeppelin"!), which is the best description of a comic book I've ever read.

I was in love with barry Smith's art from Conan#1, but those later issues just blew me away! And he hadn't even done Red nails yet, which could be the greatest thing ever.

For the longest time it used to be Dredd's "The Day The Law Died", but Percy's "Emerald Outlaw" for Green Arrow Rebirth is making me reconsider

Two short but brilliant series. Dave Steven's Rocketeer and Mark Schultz's Xenozoic Tales. Two of the best drawn comics ever.
