Midge was like a ship without a rudder in "AMV". First, she breaks up with Moose due to his anger and possessiveness controlling her. She then dates Jughead and helps him get funding to buy the Chock'lit Shop. But Jughead didn't want to marry her, so they break up and she disappears out of the story. She supposedly then was dating Moe Miller, Jughead's silent partner. But when she finally resurfaces at the end of the story. she looks totally different and she isn't seen with Miller. I do have a theory on what was going on with her. I think she was done with men altogether. Anyone else think that? Welcome back to the community, beatman! I suspect Kupperberg's intent was to show that a woman didn't need a man in order to be happy/complete, and Midge was the perfect character to deliver that message since that's exactly how she had historically been used. I don't think Kupperberg meant to indicate that she was asexual or lesbian, as that would sort of undermine the point: you can be attracted to men and still not NEED a man in your life. I don't think Midge was done with men entirely, but she was done settling for men who were not right for her.

I can see your point about Midge being done settling for any man in the "AMV" timeline. But her disappearance in that universe was a mystery. She didn't attend either Veronica's Halloween party or Kevin Keller's wedding. And none of her friends checked up on her, not even Betty. Was Midge's dropping out of the storyline done to make way for the Jughead/Ethel pairing since in the "AMB" universe, Jughead and Midge have been married for almost a year and Midge is now pregnant? I would have liked to have seen more of a Midge storyline in "AMV". Maybe she still was with Moe Miller, but it was left unclear.

It definitely would have been cool to watch her develop as a character. The challenge, I suspect, was that Midge had no relationships with anyone who wasn't Moose. There were no friendships to explore, and really nothing keeping her in Riverdale. Kupperberg let the bird out of its cage, and it saw no reason to stick around.

I thought another cool tool Mr. Kupperberg used was having a character in one universe say or think something that reinforced a storyline that was happening in the other. For example, in issue 5 "AMB" side, after Mr. Lodge reveals to Archie that he's the one messing with Archie's and Betty's lives, Archie has his "It's a Wonderful Life" moment where he envisions his returning to Veronica. And of course. she's nasty to him and they bicker. It was a bit exaggerated but still pretty close to what their relationship was deteriorating into on the "AMV" side. Also again, Issue 15 "AMB" side, Jughead and Archie are going over the drawings of the Chowhouse Too. Arche mentions that "had he married Veronica, maybe she wouldn't have gotten the planethat went missing." Jughead tells he had he married Veronica "he'd probably be divorced by now". And at that time in "AMV" Veronica was filing for divorce!. I wonder which of these storylines Mr. Kupperberg had more fun creating!

I suspect Kupperberg did too because the conflict was already there, whereas finding problems for Betty and Archie required more work.

Bregfoyle's artwork was excellent in keeping with the "classic Archies" look and making the characters look their best as adults. I'm not an Ethel fan, but he made her look downright pretty. I think Mr. Uslan deserves credit for coming up with the "Archie Wedding" series and Issue One of the Married Life. Mr. Kupperberg made it his own story, but Uslan gave him the start. One of the storylines that bothered many fans was Mr. Lodge being portrayed as a villain, at least for half the series. I read how he messed with Archie's life in both timelines But, I think he was more damaging in the "Betty" timeline. He destroyed Archie's chance of writing a movie score as well as Betty's chance of being a sales agent. This caused the couple to lose millions in potential income.
