I don't mean to be morbid but I read in another thread that Jack Kole died young from Suicide. I was wondering how many Comic book creators died young while they were still working or otherwise.

Joe Maneely and Gene Day were just 32 and 31 respectively when they were struck down in their prime. Joe's death was accidental, a fall from a train; Gene had a heart attack while crossing a street. Just tragic.

What age do we consider early? I know of a few who died in their 50s, Bill Everett, Wally Wood, Dave Stevens, Marshall Rodgers, Don Newton. Others who were definitely young, Michael Turner and Mike Wieringo,

Marshall Rogers, 57. Presumably a heart attack; found by his son.
Alex Raymond, 46. Driving fellow artist Stan Drake's Corvette convertible. Speeding, rainy weather. Drake thrown free. Raymond killed when car hits a tree.
Dwayne McDuffie, the day after he turned 49. Complications from heart surgery.
Darwyn Cooke, 53. Cancer.
Steve Dillon, 54. Ruptured appendix.

Life expectancy in the US is 81 for women and 76 for men. But the the purpose of this thread "young" is below 70.

And where do we put the agonizingly tragic story of Bill Mantlo? www.lifehealthpro.com/2011/11/07/tragic-tale

Stephen Hughes, long time Lady Death artist, died in 2000. And I'm fairly certain he was only in his 40's.

I'm not sure exactly how old he was, but I believe Crime Does Not Pay artist and editor Bob Wood was in his 40's or possibly early 50's when he was murdered by the mob.

Vaughn Bode was 33 when he died from an auto-erotic asphyxiation stunt gone wrong.
Mike Parobeck was 30, when he died of diabetes-related illness.

Vaughn Bode was 33 when he died from an auto-erotic asphyxiation stunt gone wrong. I saw what was probably one of his last "Cartoon Concerts." Glad I got that opportunity.
