SyFyWire did aState of the Genre facebook live roundtable as part of their Women in Comics Month as part of of March'e celebration of Women's History. This is part of this month's programming that featured the Colleen Doran interviews I posted elsewhere. Among the guests were Colleen Doran (legendary comic artist), Afua Richardson (current comic artist, recently did covers for World of Wakanda and other projects, Akilah, comedian and pop culture vlogger and host Cher Martinetti of SyFyWire. you can find the video herelots of interesting discussion about breaking in, how to support comics and creators you like, favorite characters etc. Towards he end of the video they take viewer questions and one asked Marvel vs. DC, and why, which can lead to all kinds of negativity, but Afua Richardson had a very insightful answer that I thought it worth attention and possibly discussion. She said from her view the main difference between Marvel & DC is that... I think it really does cut to the difference of the iconic heroes of each company. There was lots of other bits that are food for thought. Colleen Doran has some solid advice for aspiring creators, and they all have some interesting perspectives on the new characters being created for comics today and how they fit in with the old standbys who have become iconic standard bearers for the Marvel & DC brands. And their most important piece of advice-vote with your wallet! Support the books, movies and creators doing things you like and don't give money to stuff that you don't like or isn't doing what you like simply because it's super-heroes or because you always have. Fashion note, I love Afua's Storm inspired earring! -M
