Not exactly the way Jonah looked in his first appearance. Never saw that before, Hal. Fat Jonah Hex with an utterly mutilated face. It kinda makes sense that DC would've originally intended his face to be even more disfigured than it eventually was because in that first All Star Western appearance, Jonah is painted as very much the tragic hero: a brutal, but good man who is shunned by society -- even those he helps -- because of his facial scars. Fascinating.

I know it's shocking Liefeld would announce a vapor comic, but there you go. I would also quibble on the "finest super team" line.

From the Department of Really Important Stuff: From the GCD entry on DC's Swing with Scooter series: "The book was supposed to premiere in May-June 1966 Showcase and was even advertised as such, as in Doom Patrol 103, but it was at the last minute decided to start with #1 due to Beatlemania. Info provided by Bob Bailey, email 2004-11-03. Edited by Per Sandell." I checked a copy of Doom Patrol 103 but only saw an ad for the first Inferior Five issue of Showcase (#62). Saw no mention in the Direct Currents column, either. Could an ad for a Scooter issue of Showcase have run in part of the print run of DP 103? I'm thinking that's not a real possibility. Not sure then, what the GCD entry is referring to... perhaps some galley pages or information from a interview or some similar source? In the American Comic Book Chronicles volume on the late 60s, we read that "a March [1966] plug [for] its unrealized Showcase appearance..." It also mentions a full-page ad that ran in the romance comics, but doesn't say whether it was for the planned Showcase issue or Scooter #1. Certainly easy to imagine this as the cover for a Showcase appearance:

OK, fair enough. I don't remember the panel, but I'm sure you're correct. It's definitely not at all portraying the vibe of the story.

The fairy queen trying to keep him in Faerie. Mr. E trying to kill him. It may not be the best representation, but it’s accurate.

There is an add on the last page of Daredevil #190 from January 1983. It reads "Darkseid...Dark Phoenix..Apokolips now..." and says it is coming the summer of that year.
Initially, I had thought it was an add for the Uncanny X-Men crossover with the Teen Titans, as this book featured Phoenix. However, that came out in 1982 from what I have researched. This comic is proposing this work would come out the summer of 1983 but I don't think it ever happened....I will try to show a pic of the ad when I have time to take one.

I remember that ad and it's definitely for the X-Men/Teen Titans book by Claremont & Simonson. They were only a few months apart so maybe it just ran late.

I don't believe this was "THE MOST SPECIAL OF SPECIAL ISSUES" like the ad stated.
