Fleetwood Mac covering the Beach Boys' Farmer's Daughter:
This is one of the only two songs from their early-80s live album that I like. Both were recorded during sound checks, not coincidentally, I believe, as they're much tighter and more restrained than the rest of the album, taken from performances in front of audiences. Come to think of it, I think I'll post the other one on the What are You Listening to Now thread.

Posted this recently elsewhere and just remembered that it is in fact a cover, though I can't remember who did the original or if I've ever heard it:

Mott the Hoople cover of The Kinks' You Really Got Me Have much love for Hoople and had never heard this. They're famously called out in Queen's "Now I'm Here," inspired by the '74 tour during which Queen was the opening act. Terrific live act in their heyday.

Here's an unlikely match-up. The Sex Pistols cover Boyce and Hart's "(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone," earlier recorded by both Paul Revere and the Raiders and The Monkees, for whom it was a hit:

I loved Richie Haven's cover of Here Comes the Sun many years before I even knew it was a cover. I still love that version, but now that I'm older and wiser I concede that George's original ain't too shabby either! Gorgeous song.

This song was already a classic when the Mills Brothers put their stamp on it That's great! I just realized that I've been hearing this song and references to it my entire life. It's featured in several Tex Avery directed cartoons for MGM, including "The Blitz Wolf" and "Dixieland Droopy," and is name-checked in "Watch That Man" from Bowie's Aladdin Sane ("a lemon in a bag did the Tiger Rag. . ."), as well as many other places too numerous to name. The Bros. Mills really nail it here!

Speaking of Mr. Bowie, here is my favorite cover of his, Jacques Brel's Amsterdam:
From Wikipedia: Brel originally stated that he didn't want to "give his songs to fags", and refused to meet Bowie, who nevertheless admired him.

Bowie did a fantastic job on that song. Maybe the best English version of any Brel song I've heard.
