Little-known fact: a chief impetus for the adoption of the Comics Code in the 50s was the preponderance of covers drawn to appeal to the "Female Gaze." Such covers presented an absurd and impossible standard for males of that time (or any time, really) to even approach, much less typify. Particularly egregious were the covers that seemed to leer at specific, superficial attributes of the male physique.  Case in point:  |

I must admit I'm kind of shocked that what i was going to use for my cover has not been used yet!
(it was the first thing i thought of, and didn't use it because it seemed too obvious)
I just might go change my cover choice, even tho I love the one I used, only because this classic hasn't been used yet!

(it was the first thing i thought of, and didn't use it because it seemed too obvious) I just might go change my cover choice, even tho I love the one I used, only because this classic hasn't been used yet! changed my entry, to reflect "Brave & the Bold" #57. . . 1st appearance of Metamorpho (a well as Sapphire Stagg. . . and Java!. .who's on the freaking cover, but no one wanted to use it???) |
