I'd also like to try out some EC reprints that have been out for awhile.

You can find a lot of that material, for free, at the Digital Comic Museum. digitalcomicmuseum.com/Also, if you just want to sample, AC Comics Golden Age Greats and Golden Age Men of Mystery black & white books are nice collections. They reprinted a lot of Jerry Robinson & Mort Meskin Nedor/Standard stuff (Black terror, Fighting Yank), Dick Ayers' Avenger and Ghost Rider (the western hero, from ME), and some Holyoke.

codystarbuck is right--if you've never read GA or even Ecs before, look into cheaper versions before shelling out $30+ for a hardcover you may only read once.

I appreciate it. I just don't like digital.

I appreciate it. I just don't like digital. It is a handy way of checking material out though, especially if you are going to be spending big bucks on hardcover volumes.

Other options: TPB versions or hardcovers on sale at conventions; floppy format reprints (not as common now as in the 80s-90s, and sometimes not the best production, but sometimes available in dollar bins, esp ECs); the library. Does Tales of Wonder still do sales? sometimes real bargains there.

You might also be interested in IDW's Haunted Horror title. It's a reprint title released every two months which contains about five or six pre-code horror stories from the 1950's (though it stays away from EC stuff of course). I'm suggesting it because it's one of the few current comics out there publishing reprints on a regular basis in comic book form and they're pretty good.
