Is anyone else enjoying this series? I've read both volumes and think it's a pretty fun read. Allred draws all kinds of beautiful and trippy space scenes and I feel like this title has some of Slott's better character work. Initially Norrin and Dawn Greenwood's relationship has the same vibe as Doctor Who and one of his companions but eventually that evolves into something more which I won't spoil for those who haven't read the most recent issues. There's also some genuinely touching emotional moments throughout the series. The first volume runs 15 issues and there are currently a dozen issues in the second volume released. Here's a preview for the first issue of volume 2 which is one of the most fun issues of the entire series. So far the series is collected in four TPBs and Silver Surfer #12 came out this month.

I haven't read read it but will probably eventually pick it up.
I love love love any and all Allred, and respect what Slott has done, so eventually I'll probably at least try this.
Like you stated here, I've read that Slott is a big Whovian and this is kind of a Norrin Radd-homage with Who.

Its a fun book mainly, certainly dont expect the old school emo Surfer stories, this is almost like Surfer-as-created-by-Ditko.

I've been following this book since the beginning. I agree, great book. I love that it's fairly standalone, not requiring much knowledge of current Marvel continuity. It's got an offbeat sense of humor, definitely a "British" vibe to it. And while there's a definite continuity to it, I love that they do something that is sorely lacking in modern comics -- DONE-IN-ONE ISSUES!

I think considering the tumultuous times when Stan was writing, the Surfer's philosophical stance was unique.
Not the standard shoot first and ask questions later slam bang.
It also gave Stan a chance to elevate the discourse a little and appeal to more a intellectual perspective and inject a savior-like character.
That was fine for then, but that was then.
I like the sounds of this and am looking forward to trying it.

I love this series a lot. It'll be sad to see it end.

I love this series a lot. It'll be sad to see it end. Yup, just read issue #12. I think from solicits there are two more issues to go and then they're done. It's been a great ride, wish it was longer, but in a lot of ways I'm glad that they got to tell a self-contained story. I hope we get to see Dawn Greenwood pop up again in the Marvel Universe somewhere.

The final issue of the run came out this week and it was a beautiful swan song for the Dawn Greenwood character. It very much felt like a Doctor Who companion leaving the show. If only Davies and Moffat could have done this well. This is going to be a hard run to top whenever the next volume comes out in the future and I definitely plan on rereading both volumes of this run eventually.

I kept reading (here and elsewhere) that this title was basically Surfer as Doctor Who with a Companion. If you love Who, then you'll love this book.
Well, I love Who but Allred, not so much. It's not that I don't think he isn't talented or creative but it's just something about his work that I find...unsettling or hard to invest in. I really can't put it into words other than to me, his work seems to be an acquired taste. The more you see it, the more you may grow to enjoy his style maybe.
Anyway, after hearing such constant praise, I decided to bite the Madman bullet and read the first trade of the first series. And I must say, spot on reviews. Slott's writing is inventive and witty, Dawn being a curious delight. Allred's art is slowly growing on me and his alien designs (particularly on the Impericon) were cool.
Although I'm confused though. Comixology has the second series (almost the entire run) on their Unlimited yet the first series isn't on it. I thought it would've been the other way around.
Still, looking forward to reading the rest of this engaging series.

From what I've read Stan intended for Silver Surfer to become a villain hence the ending of the last issue of his run which I'm not sure actually plays out in whatever his next appearance is. The highlight of that run really is the John Buscema artwork.
