This is something I posted in the Magik Appreciation Thread on the CBR boards a little while back when we started getting a flood of news about the upcoming New Mutants movie. Basically it's a collection of scenes I'd like to see (and definitely won't given what we know). It's not a full script and was meant for the Magik thread, so it's a collection of scenes focusing on her.
Pre-credits scene:
The X-Men are running through a dark cave with a red/orange glow. The camera focuses on a small, blonde girl being carried on Colossus' shoulder.
Clawed hands reach out from the shadows and grab at the X-Men, but Cyclops blasts them away with his optic beams.
Kitty Pryde, the youngest X-Man, is running behind Colossus. "Don't be scared, Illyana," she tells the child. Trying to give a reassuring smile, she says, "We'll protect you."
Illyana stares past Kitty. She sees the silhouettes of demons running after them.
Nightcrawler teleports next to Storm and starts running with them. "I've found the portal!" he tells Storm. "It's close. We're almost home."
Kitty spares a look behind them. The silhouettes of the demons are gone. "Hey, where'd all the monsters go?"
Storm stops and stares at the cave behind them. The camera zooms in and distorts (like when the Nazgul approach on the road in the Lord of the Rings, the Fellowship of he Ring) and a creepy whisper is heard.
Storm's eyes widen and she yells "Run!"
The music pics up as the X-Men start running faster.
Nightcrawler points ahead. "There!"
They see a light in the distance. The camera moves forward to the end of the cave, where a circular disk of light is floating several feet in the air, bathing the surrounding area in light.
The X-Men begin to go through the portal. Colossus takes longer because of his height and size.
As Colossus is going through the portal, we see a brief glimpse of Belasco, a demonic looking man with red skin and horns. He grabs Illyana, who screams in terror as she is ripped from Colossus' shoulder.
"Illyana!" Colossus screams as he comes out the other side.
Without thinking, Kitty plungers her hands back into the portal. "I've got her!" she yells. "Help me pull her out!"
Colossus grabs Kitty's arms and helps her pull them out of the portal.
The girl who emerges is not the small child who was grabbed, but a teenager. All of the X-Men stare at her in shock. Even Colossus is speechless
The older Illyana turns to look back at the portal, breathing hard. She has a look of fear on her face as she stares at the portal.
The camera moves into the portal, beginning the opening credits sequence.

Scene in the school
A group of students is sitting in a classroom as a teacher gives a history lesson. Illyana sits towards the back, staring absentmindedly out the window.
"Even though slavery had been ended by President Lincoln and the 13th amendment to the constitution nearly a hundred years earlier, African Americans were still not treated as equal to whites." the teacher says. "That is why he Civil Rights Movement began in the 50s and truly began to change the country in the 60s. Now, who can tell me who was the most famous and prominent leader of the Civil Rights Movement?"
Many hands go up. Illyana's does not. She continues to stare out the window.
"Illyana." the teacher calls on her. She snaps to attention. "Can you tell me who was the most famous leader of the Civil Rights Movement?"
Illyana looks uncomfortable as the other students turn to look at her.
"I don't know." she says.
The class erupts in laughter, which the teacher tries to settle down.
Several students discuss what happened by the lockers after class.
"Can you believe it? How did someone that dumb get into this school in the first place?" one student asks.
"Maybe being dumb is her mutant power." another jokes.
A third student shakes her head. "Forget it. She's not a mutant at all. She's just an ordinary, stupid human."
The first student shakes his head as well. "School for gifted youngsters my-"
He stops as he turns from his locker to see Illyana standing nearby in front of her own locker. She looks sad at first, but she glares at the students when she turns to look at them. The students are frightened by her expression.
Illyana holds her hand behind her back, clenched in a fist. Her hand glows slightly.
"Um, hi Illyana." the third student says nervously.
Illyana unclenches her fist, causing the glow to fade. She sighs sadly, closes her locker, and turns away.

Concerns about Illyana's loyalties
Storm and Cyclops sit across from Professor Xavier in his office.
"We need to talk about Illyana," Storm says.
"I understand that her studies are not going well," Xavier answers. "It would have been foolish to expect it to be otherwise after what happened to her. I'm bringing in a private tutor to help her catch up."
Storm and Cyclops exchange a look of concern. "That's not what we need to discuss," she says.
"If this is about her trouble making friends, that is why I believe it is important for her to remain in regular classes with children her own age."
"Professor," Cyclops interrupts sharply. "We need to talk about the danger she represents."
Xavier scowls slightly and puts his hand over his chin thoughtfully.
"We can't put off dealing with this forever," Cyclops says more softly.
When Xavier does not respond Storm explains, "We need to consider the possibility that she is a trojan horse."
"You think that Illyana was sent back to destroy us from within?" Xavier asks skeptically.
"You weren't there, in that...hell," Storm asserts. "You didn't see, orfeel the evil which resides there. To think that she escaped from that on her own...I think it is much more likely that she was let go."
"She never told us anything about what happened in the years she was gone," Cyclops adds. "We know nothing about what she went through, or if she was brainwashed, or anything. How could she have escaped if she doesn't have any powers?"
Xavier leans back. His hand now partially covers his mouth. "And so you're jumping to conclusions."
"We're being realistic," Storm pleads. "You yourself said that you can't read her mind."
"How can we not be suspicious after that. What is she hiding?" Cyclops asks.
Xavier leans forward. "Look, I understand your concerns. But I do not share them."
"But why?" Storm pleads again. "What makes you so sure you can trust her?"
Xavier glances to the side, showing that he does know something. He begins to wheel himself out of the office. "Everyone has the right to privacy. he says as he leaves.

Attempting to fit in
he New Mutants and a few other students are walking towards the baseball field, equipment in hand. Their opponents take the field. Sam starts making the batting order.
"Dani's up first, cause she's the fastest. I'm up second. 'Berto can go third to knock us in-"
Illyana appears, nervously walking towards Sam's team.
"Is everyone ok with the order?" Sam asks. The team responds. "Good. Then lets play ball."
Sam sees Illyana. "Do you need something?" he asks.
Illyana looks at the team. "I see you're one player short."
"We are." Sam agrees.
"I was wondering..." Illyana begins. "if you would...since you need another player...I was hoping...the game looks fun...what I'm trying to say is...I want to-to...."
"You want to..." Sam says to get her to finish her sentence.
Illyana groans and says loudly "end simulation!" The baseball field and the players disappear, leaving Illyana alone in the danger room.
Illyana hits the wall in frustration. For a second it looks like she is about to cry, but she doesn't. She sighs and walks out.

Change the past
It is a bright, sunny day. 6 year old Illyana is chasing Nightcrawler in the grass in front of the school. He keeps teleporting away just as she is about to grab him. Illyana laughs hysterically as she continues to try to catch him.
Off to the side, Kitty and Piotr are laughing as they watch Illyana having fun with Nightcrawler. Storm, standing nearby, is also smiling. Scott and Jean are having a romantic moment a little farther away.
The camera pans up to a balcony near the top of the mansion, where the teenage Illyana stands, looking down at her younger self with a serious expression.
Illyana is startled by a voice from behind her. "So today's the day, Illyana?"
Illyana turns to see Xavier wheeling himself onto the balcony. "Professor Xavier."
Xavier stops several feet behind her. "Cerebro has been detecting an intruder recently, someone who appears for a short amount of time and then disappears. I was concerned because I could not read the intruder's mind. I thought someone was spying on the school."
Illyana does not respond and looks back towards the front yard, so Xavier continues.
"But seeing you here now answers many questions. You've come from the future, haven't you?"
Illyana is surprised and turns to look at him.
Xavier smiles. "Believe it or not, you're not the first time traveler I've encountered." He wheels himself to the edge of the balcony and sits next to her. "The intruder cerebro detected was you practicing with your powers, preparing for this moment."
"And what if they were?" Illyana asks.
Xavier looks at her. "I'm glad to see that you take your power seriously, and that you wanted to train yourself in its use before attempting to change the past. Time travel is an ability that must be used responsibly."
"Like reading people's minds?" Illyana asks dryly.
Xavier smiles and says "Yes. Just like reading people's minds." His smile fades and he looks out over the X-Men having fun in front of the school. The fact that you stayed in this time long enough for me to reach you means that whatever it is you came here to change, it will happen today."
Illyana's grip on the balcony railing tightens.
Xavier's voice grows more serious. "Tell me, the event which you want to change, is it a personal tragedy, or is it something which will will affect thousands or millions of people?"
Illyana lowers her head. "Personal," she admits.
Xavier nods. "I see." His face becomes sad for a moment before becoming serious again. "In that case, I must ask you not to do it."
Illyana turns away from Xavier angrily. "Why should I?"
"I told you, you are not the first time traveler I've met. Dr. McCoy and I agreed that we would adhere to certain rules to prevent unintended disasters and ripple affects from changes to the timeline, and that we would only allow history to be changed in order to prevent a global catastrophe."
"What if I don't care about that?" Illyana snarls.
"I think you do," Xavier answers. "And I don't think that you're prepared to fight me in order to change your past."
Illyana raises her hand to her face. Little sparks of energy dance between her fingers, which are bent, but not clenched. Illyana looks unsure of what to do.
"Are you?" Xavier asks.
Illyana clenches her fist. She closes her eyes and bows her head. "No," she says softly.
Xavier reaches up to hold her shoulder, but she pulls away from him.
"I know this was painful, but you made the right decision," he tries to reassure her.
Illyana glares at him while crying. She turns and walks back towards the mansion from the balcony.
Xavier looks back out over the front yard, where Piotr is swinging little Illyana through the air. He closes his own eyes and says, "And Illyana?"
Illyana stops halfway between Xavier and the balcony exit and turns her head slightly towards Xavier.
"I'm sorry that we failed to protect you," he says sadly.
Illyana turns away from him again. "So am I."
Xavier opens his eyes, but does not turn around as a light appears behind him. When the light fades he looks back. Illyana is gone.
The scene cuts to Illyana standing in her room in the present day. She bangs her head against the wall twice. When she turns her head, she sees a framed photograph of her younger self with her brother sitting on top of her drawers.
Illyana screams and the camera zooms in on her face as the room glows with a bright light. There is a brief sound of destruction.
The light fades, and the camera moves back and around to show that the drawer has been split completely in two. The edges of the cut glow orange from the heat. The camera zooms in on the picture, which has also been split in two. One half of the little Illyana is on the one side, and the other half of her is on the other side.
Illyana collapses to the floor against her bed, sobbing.

If human/mutant villains
If the Hellions/Hellfire Club are the villains...
Xavier and the New Mutants are being held in a large white room. Xavier, without his wheelchair, sits against a wall while the New Mutants try to find a way out.
Roberto punches the wall, hurting his hand. '"Argh! What's wrong with me? All my strength is gone."
Sam is pushing against the wall, straining himself. He gives up. "You're not the only one. I can't seem to blast off."
Dani turns to Illyana. "Can you teleport out of here?"
Illyana shakes hr head.
"It's no use," Xavier says. "They've set up a dampening field. We can't use our mutant powers."
The New Mutants look at him in horror. "So you're saying you can't even call the X-Men for help?" Roberto asks.
Xavier shakes his head. "We're on our own."
Roberto grits his teeth and turns to Sam. "What do you say we keep trying? Maybe their machine will overload."
"That'll never work," Dani says. "We need to come up with a plan."
"We're stuck in here without our powers! What kind of plan is there to come up with?" Roberto yells.
"Someone will come along, to feed us at least. We'll be able to see where they come in from. Maybe we can figure something out then," Dani says.
"So the plan is to do nothing but wait?" Roberto asks.
"Nothin' else we can do," Sam says. "Dani's right. We've got to be patient."
Illyana notices that Xavier is looking at her and not participating in the conversation. She sits down next to him.
"Are you frightened?" Xavier asks her.
"No," Illyana responds. "It's not the first time I've been a prisoner."
Xavier smiles. "That's something we have in common."
Illyana turns to him. "I want to know something."
Xavier tilts his head slightly towards her and shrugs. "We seem to have plenty of time."
Illyana pauses before asking her question. "If you had know what was going to happen that day, would you still have stopped me from changing my fate?"
Xavier looks at her very seriously. He holds her stare for several seconds before turning away from her again.
"I don't know what fate has in store for you, Illyana." He looks at her again. "But I know know that you are not any more bound by it than you are by these walls."
Illyana's eyes widen as she realizes that Xavier knows at least part of the truth about her. She continues to stare at him.
Xavier smiles and reaches out to put his hand on her shoulder. This time, she does not flinch away.
"It's ok," he reassures her.
Illyana looks at the rest of the New Mutants, who are now looking at her. She rises and turns around. She puts her hand on the wall and closes her eyes, as if she is either deep in thought or sensing something through the wall.
"What are you doing?" Dani asks. "I thought our mutant powers didn't work in here." Xavier chuckles slightly at her question.
Illyana opens her eyes and backs away from the wall slightly. "This isn't my mutant power."
She holds her hand in front of her face. Her hand begins to glow. The New Mutants stare in awe as the glow spreads out from her hand, forming a glowing white sword.
"It's magic," Illyana says, before stabbing the wall with the sword. She begins to slice through the wall.

Final scene if Demon Bear is the villain
The New Mutants are all standing in Professor Xavier's office. Xavier looks displeased.
"What you did was very reckless and very dangerous," Xavier says. "You left the school without permission. You caused who knows how much property damage. You could have all been badly hurt, or worse."
The New Mutants look at each other guiltily.
Dani responds. "Please, professor. They were only trying to protect me."
Xavier interrupts her. "I wasn't finished."
"It's a miracle none of you were killed and no civilians were hurt," he continues.
Xavier's expression changes. "All of that said, I'm proud of you."
The New Mutants look at him in surprise.
"You were placed in an impossible situation, and we were not there to help you. Under the circumstances, you kept your cool and did what you thought was best."
The camera focuses on Sam as the professor says "You demonstrated leadership skills."
The camera focuses on Roberto as the professor says "You showed great courage."
The camera focuses on Illyana as the professor says "You worked together as a team.
The camera focuses on Rahne as the professor says "And you showed tremendous dedication in standing by your friend."
"These are the values I have tried to teach all of my students, and to see you embody them fills me with pride."
Xavier raises a finger. "But don't do that ever again."
Dani and Sam look at each other. Dani grins and says "No promises."
Xavier half-grins and half-scowls. "Why am I not surprised?"
He turns to the window. "I believe you have a baseball game scheduled now against James and his team."
"So, we're not being punished?" Roberto asks.
"You're still accountable for last night's homework," Xavier answers. "Any assignment handed in late will be dealt with accordingly."
Roberto looks crestfallen.
"Now get to your game before James declares it a forfeit," Xavier orders.
Xavier follows the New Mutants out of his office. When they go outside most of the students break into a run towards the baseball field. Xavier and Illyana remain in fornt of the mansion.
Xavier asks "Aren't you going to join them, Illyana?"
"I don't know how," Illyana answers.
"How to play?"
"How to ask," Illyana admits.
She looks out over the front yard, where she had played with Nightcrawler as a child.
"Can I ask you something?" she says.
"Of course."
"That day, if you had know what was going to happen, would you still have stopped me from changing my fate?"
Xavier looks sad. "If I hadn't, Danielle would most likely be dead now."
"I know, Illyana agrees. "But that doesn't change how I feel."
Xavier looks at her. "I still don't know what fate has in store for you. But what I do know is that you are not bound by it."
Illyana considers his words, and he puts his hand on her shoulder.
"Go on. Your friends are waiting for you."
Illyana looks over at the baseball field, where Sam is waving at her with a baseball glove.
Xavier smiles at her. "Be a kid."
Illyana smiles at Xavier and runs off to the baseball field herself. Xavier watches as Sam tosses her the glove.
The New Mutants take the field. Roberto takes the pitcher's mound, blowing bubblegum. Rahne does her half-transformation as she lowers her catcher's mask. Sam and Dani take up there positions as first-baseman and shortstop. And Illyana stands in the outfield.
Roberto throws the first pitch at the camera, and the movie fades into the ending credits.
