I bought a Captain Marvel GS #1 this year and it was all reprints. FYI, so are the G-S Captain America, Daredevil, Hulk, Iron Man, Power Man, and Thor issues. Cei-U! Caveat emptor! Also GS Avengers #5

Also GS Avengers #5 As are G-S Fantastic Four #5-6, Spider-Man #6, and X-Men #2 (which is why I was so confused when shax referred to it as a "holy grail" in his OP). Cei-U! I summon the also-rans!

I've had a LOT on my mind the past three days. Grateful I have someone as pleasant as you to catch my errors instead of someone less kind

I had no idea these were anything but Annuals... did most of the Annuals even pick up the numbering? I just assumed they wanted a more Stan Lee-ish name for them.

Most annuals pre-dated the Giant-Size format but (I think) had been suspended by this point. The Giant-Sizes were quarterly, not annual, and were usually written to intersect with the main title so that you had to read them.

I'm not sure that many did intersect with the monthly titles other than the Avengers series.

Huh.. I don't have many, and the ones I do have are mostly reprints... I thought they were all like that, other than X-Men. Interesting!

The Giant-Sizes pre-dated my comic buying by just a bit. But there was a grocery store that sold them in cellophane two-packs for...I don't remember how much. I picked up quite a few of them that way probably 3-4 years after they were first on the newsstands.

They didn't continue a story like the Avengers did. You could read them as stand alone stories. GS Avengers 2&3 were chapters of the Celestial Madonna story.

Right, but the continuity was carefully preserved between them, and the GS stories were referred to in the regular title. Also, the big events were saved for the GS stories, so you were often really lost if you didn't read them. Oh, I forgot Giant-Size Howard the Duck. Did that too.

The Defenders/GotG x-over story started in GS Defenders 5 and continued into Defenders #26. I think the MoKF stories had a bearing on the monthly too, if not direct chapters of the same story. The GS Conan stories are an interesting case. Roy used them to adapt the longer Howard originals out of sequence with the monthly, but the story got interrupted when the book went to reprints and I think it was finished in SSOC iirc. Roquefort Raider could probably confirm or correct my memory on this. -M

I am posting again, but one of the things I actually liked about the recuperation time was it broke a lot of addiction type habits*-especially spending too much time online and not doing other things. So, I'm back, and will check in once or twice a day, and post if it's something I have something to say about, but I don't think I will attain the volume of posts I once had again. I am not sure how much energy I will have for the first few weeks once I go back to work either, I may just come home and sleep until I build stamina back up. Of course once I am fully up to speed, I will be spending a lot of time finishing the remodel/reset of the house, especially the comic room that I was just starting when I got sick, which will take up a lot of time, which means I will be limiting time on the computer too. I also started doing a little writing and drawing again, so that could take time away from online activities too. So it's good to be back, but it will be more limited than it was. Still missed the place and the people, so thanks for the welcome back. -M *I've managed to give up pop, fast food and junk food too, and realign my sleep cycle to a more normal set of hours, all plusses in my book.
