My first true indy comic was the rather obscure Ismet: I actually got the first few issues (there were only 5 in all) from the older sister of the creator, Greg Wadsworth, who used to live down the road and used to ride into school on the same bus. Later that same year (1981), I discovered my first comic book shop in Salem, OR, and starting sampling more indy comics, starting with Pacific (Capt. Victory, Starslayer, etc.). you got hotlink-blocked. sorry man.

Can I get more "indie"than Captain Sunshine by the great Colin Wilson, who soon after goes on to the likes of Rogue Trooper in 2000AD until he got purchased by Kerry Packer and became Captain Sunshine Coast, lol love that art!

I suppose technically it would be Cliff Merritt Sets the Record Straight, a propaganda giveaway from the Brotherhood of Railroad Workers illustrated by Al Williamson that my dad brought home from a Teamsters meeting. Barring that, it would be the various issues of Zap, Young Lust, and The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers that got surreptitiously passed around in 9th grade art class. Barring those, it would've been one of the early Pacific titles. By the time I had a pull list at O'Leary's Comics, I was regularly sampling--and often collecting--titles from Eclipse, First, Fantagraphics, WaRP, Aardvark-Vanaheim, Comico et al.
Cei-U! I summon the good old days!

loatheswareluvskane, re: "you got hotlink-blocked. sorry man." --- ? He means that your picture isn't showing up, just a warning about hotlinking from which ever site hosts the image.

I don't consider it 'indy', but I definitely read alot of Image when it first came out.
Other than that, Elfquest.
