This footage came out a couple of years ago but I'm not sure if most fans even know about it. This is what the Green Goblin could have looked like in Sam Raimi's 2002 Spider-Man film.
I thought this special effects makeup looked amazing and love that it incorporates animatronics. It's actually pretty scary for a kids movie. I read awhile ago that the reason we didn't get this is because Willem Dafoe refused to wear anything on his face which is unfortunate and why we got the Power Ranger looking helmet they ended up using in the actual film.

I felt that this is too scary for the Kids and I would had prefered this look than the Power Ranger look that they used in that film. This version with the Ears is much better and more realistic. I just wished Dafoe could had worn that version instead; but he backed out and had things his way not Raimi's version of the mask.

That it looks a lot better than the action figure looking costume we ended up with.

I actually preferred the helmet look, I've never really loved the rubber goblin mask and thought the mutated version from the Ultimate line was a little too Hulk like.

This looks FAR better. The Goblin mask is my least favorite aspect of the original film, but, seeing as how Dafoe is my favorite aspect of the original film, I suppose I'd rather have him happy than have this awesome look.

Fascinating post, Jesse. I much preferred that more traditional looking, animatronic Goblin mask to the Power Rangers look we got in the finished movie. The Green Goblin's costume was by far my biggest disappointment in that film. This would've been much, much better.

For some reason I can't help but wonder what Tim Curry would have been like in the role. Dafoe is the better actor in my opinion but seeing as Curry is no stranger to special effects makeups and has given some incredible performances that might have been interesting to see.

The Goblin costume was a bad joke in that film - it had done pretty well up to that point, but Defoe in the suit was just laughably bad.

To this day I hate Willem Defoe for that...that movie was great and he ruined it because he did not want to wear an elaborate mask. Should have hired a different actor
It might be a little while but I hope we get to see a Goblin again on the big screen.

The armor wasn't ideal, but it was better than a rubber Halloween mask.
I liked how they did it in Amazing, with him actually mutating.

The armor wasn't ideal, but it was better than a rubber Halloween mask. Well, obviously they would have had to restructure the story and do away with the whole Oscorp/U.S. military thing and the suit being a prototype weapon (which no doubt was shoehorned into the story after Willem Dafoe refused to wear the makeup). But, I don't know, a rubber Halloween mask is what the Goblin wears. That's the character's look. Judging from the clips that Jesse published, the animatronic mask would've looked super creepy in the film, with dramatic lighting and what not, and the Goblin absolutely should be creepy. His whole shtick is Halloween-themed -- pumpkin bombs, razor bats, ghost bombs, electric flying broomstick and, most importantly, he's called the Green Goblin. In the Sam Raimi film, the villain was a mad man, wearing an ex-military, prototype battle suit -- but why the hell would he call himself the Green Goblin and use pumpkin bombs as a weapon?! To my mind, you have to either go with the whole Halloween concept of the character in its entirety or choose a different villain altogether.
