I have to vote for Starlin here, though as expressed by others I prefer Steranko. Is there another artist so revered, for such a small body of work, after almost 50 years. His work is still influencing artists, (much like Kirby's ideas still influence 2 companies) just look at the new Nick Fury book, an unappreciated gem which screams Steranko(well to me anyway).
Starlin gets my vote though because of the body of work over significant time, providing one of the greatest comic sagas of all, starring one company's (arguably) greatest villain. He also did one of the greatest and most respectful "Death of" stories with the Captain Marvel graphic novel.

I know what you mean but for me, Starlin's best work was done over a short period of time, in his early years, and thus isn't much bigger than Steranko's. But I know most people would disagree with me about that. I don't rate The Death of Captain Marvel that highly, for example, while most Starlin fans cite it as his one of his very best. And I think his artwork started to go downhill as early as Deathstar, though I still like his writing on that one, at least in the first few parts.
