'Twas a close run race this week, but we have a winner.
Landing first place this week is Farrar, with 3 votes. We have a veritable school of runners-up, with DubipR, The Captain, foxley, chickenpocket, Slam_Bradley, and Prince Hal all scoring 2 votes. Netting third place are mrp, Caped Crusader, Outsider, Phil Maurice, Arthur Gordon Scratch, Crimebuster, kirby101, Hoosier X, and Rob Allen, with 1 vote apiece.

And now that the contest is over, I'll post this. I was honestly surprised that this piece of classic Superdickery did not get posted (it would have been my second choice):

Those Strange Adventures covers were certainly eye-catching. And I've got to admit, I do want to know what is going on in "Fishing Hole in the Sky".

Sorry for the delay, everyone--had to deal with a bit of a crisis earlier. New contest will be up soon.
Thanks to those who voted for this Maneely cover. Also thanks also to those who "liked" it and to all contest participants. I'd wanted to use this particular cover for quite some time now and Dubip's topic provided the perfect opportunity.
I've read that Maneely's pencils were quite rough--circles, squiggles, shapes, etc.--and that he did the "heavy lifting" with the inks. His details on the cover--the scales, the seafoam, the mermaid's hair, the fisherman's jowls and the folds in his clothing--are just exquisite. Plus I love that there's another guy sitting in the boat, oblivious to what's happening. This is one comic I want for the cover alone.

The word that always pops into my mind when I see Maneely's art is "texture." He does a lot to convey different textures, but it never gets muddy. He seemed to set the tone for Atlas at that time.
