Since there's already a general TMNT comics discussion thread and also a general TMNT toy discussion thread I thought here might be a better place for discussing the various adaptions; movies, TV series, video games, etc. I'm currently really enjoying the TMNT animated series on Nickelodeon and I think it's the best cartoon based on the IP. Not only is the quality of the animation incredible the writing is pretty damn good too. This week's episode "Lone Rat and Cubs" featured a flashback of Splinter raising the young turtles and finding the underground sewer lair that would become their home. There's a bunch of great action scenes but it's also full of touching moments as well. I think it's sad that the next season will be its last and Nickelodeon has already announced a 2D reboot called “Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” that will air sometime in the fall of 2018.

It's been really enjoyable. I'm sad to see it go.
I never thought that I would be the age I am and have both a TMNT cartoon and a comic book that I enjoy more than when I was a little kid.

I think my favorite Turtle related thing ever was the stand up arcade game... When I was at university in the late 80s/early 90s, I worked part time at a movie theatre and they had one in the lobby, and my co-workers and I spent many a night after hours pouring quarters in and playing that until the wee hours of the morning after all the patrons had left. -M

I think my favorite Turtle related thing ever was the stand up arcade I loved that arcade game. I think they eventually converted it for Nintendo but don't remember it being as good. I also really enjoyed "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time" that may one of the best TMNT video games ever created as well.

Just caught up on some of the most recent episodes on Nickelodeon On Demand over the past few days. I think the only ones I haven't watched are the future Raphael episodes. This series did a four episode Halloween story arc where the turtles time travel and encounter versions of classic movie monsters including Dracula, the Mummy, the Wolf Man, the Headless Horseman, Igor and Frankenstein's monster. I thought the character designs looked really cool along with the monster hunter costumes the turtles wore and the story itself was very fun.
One of the things I like about the story telling in this show is that the villains aren't easily defeated and things often look bleak for the heroes which I think makes their inevitable winning the day more interesting.
In the newest episodes (which may not have actually aired yet but are available On Demand) the 1980s versions of Shredder and Krang cross over into this dimension with the technodrome and recruit Bebop and Rocksteady. It starts off with the same 2D animation style as the original and I'm pretty sure they brought back some of the original voice actors as well. It's a lot of hilarious fun when the 80s turtles show up 3D animated as well which makes for a nice homage that also playfully pokes fun at the original show.

So Nickelodeon made an announcement about their upcoming 2D-animated series Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that will be replacing the current 3D animated series next year. The showed some of the casting which actually looks pretty good but also the character descriptions reveal that Raphael will be the leader of the turtles! Which is kind of a shocking new direction for long time fans that we haven't really seen before.

They dropped the teaser for Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles:
I'll watch the first episode, but I think this might be the end of me and Turtle cartoons for a while.

They did port it eventually, but first there was two more adventure, oriented games (including Turtles in Time) That and the very similar X-Men one (most notable for the long screen and allowing SIX players at once) got alot of quarters from me.

Especially since it’s replacing the best animated series to date.

Especially since it’s replacing the best animated series to date. I haven't watched the current one a whole lot.. I just don't like the animation. The ones I've seen haven't been terrible, but the 80s original is still my favorite.

Nobody should ever make fun of the old school Hanna Barbera or Filmation limited animation of the past because lots of these new animation styles are UGLY and annoying.

They can do amazing things with animation sometimes, but sadly often they go for cheap and/or fast over good.
