It's actually possible that I bought Marvel Tales #65. If I did it has been coverless for a LONG time. And I'm too lazy to try to find the interior to be able to tell if I bought it or not.

The Chua Count for DC on sale in December 1975. Ernie did: All-Star #59 Batman #273 Batman Family #3 Claw the Unconquered #6 Flash #240 Four Star Spectacular #1 Freedom Fighters #1 Joker #6 Justice League of America #128 World's Finest #236
That's 10 out of 36, about 28% penciled by Ernie. But based on the blank backgrounds and other tells, there's reason to suspect that he did the layouts for Action #457 (Oksner) Shazam #23 (Schaffenberger) Superboy #215 Superman #297 Warlord #2 and maybe more (even a couple of Kubert's covers have the blank backgrounds and some of Chan's typical staging, and it chills me a little to think of Kubert having to follow Ernie's designs).

Ernie makes a cameo appearance in this month's version of the 30 Years Ago Thread.

Memories get fuzzy around this point because i was frequenting a dry cleaning/used bookstore that sold back issues for 10 cents and picked up a bunch of stuff there...
All-Star #59 (!) Astonishing Tales #34 Avengers #145* (great cover!!) Blackhawk #244 (digging the new look!) Champions #4* Doomsday+1 #5 (at the drugstore that sold only Charltons!) FF #168 Freedom Fighters #1 Howard the Duck #2 (my Dad bought this book from me for investment purposes!) Invaders #5* JLA #128* (i think this is when my subscription ended) Kamandi #39 (also ended my subscription here) Marvel Team-Up #43 (great 4 part story!!) MTA #28 (filling in my Avengers run!) MTIO #14 (a Christmas story featuring the Son of Satan!) Omega #1 (great story!!) Skull the Slayer #4 (this got passed around the back seat of the car quite a bit!) Thor #245 (loved the Buscema/Sinnott work here!)
Reupped my Marvel subs and dropped the DC ones for Christmas this year... full fledged Marvel Zombie now!!! (would swing back probably around '80 or so... every five years switched back and forth for some reason....

It was kind of a skimpy month by my standards of the time, but here's what I'm sure I bought off the stands in December, 1975:
1st Issue Special #12: The debut of a new Starman. The 1st Issue Special concept excited me, but I think I was disappointed with almost every issue, and this was no exception. Mike Vosburg's art didn't click with me, and this blue alien character bored me. Adventure Comics #444: Anything Aparo did was an easy sell, but Paul Levitz was plotting one of the most engaging Aquaman stories I would ever read here. Batman Family #4: I remember seeing the cameo of "Fatman" on the cover and thinking, was this a "real" Batman family character? Nah, just a one-off character, not worthy of being a "cover feature" to my mind. Brave and the Bold #125: Batman and the Flash by Aparo & Haney. I seem to recall this being a bit of a bore, story-wise. Champions #4: I stayed interested in the Champs, but it wasn't really that good. Defenders #33: I never lost interest, and this was one of the most fascinating periods, as we got the Headmen, villains created from pre-Marvel monster comics. Doc Savage #3: I was a big fan of Doc at the time, and these B&W mags did a great job of capturing the novels' feel. Fantastic Four #168: Back when changes in team membership was rare, seeing Powerman join the FF was irresistable. Four Star Spectacular #1: More DC reprints, which I usually loved. Freedom Fighters #1: New team books were always a draw. I stuck with the FFers, but ultimately, the series was a big dud. Howard the Duck #2: I was high on Howard, especially this early in the run. Incredible Hulk #197: Hulk vs. Man-Thing under a stunning Wrightson cover. Easy sell! Joker #6: I was really fascinated by this series. Having him meet a Holmes-lookalike was fun, as I, like many of the era, was on a Holmes kick. Justice League of America #128: More team changes, as Wonder Woman rejoined. Karate Kid #1: I usually went for new first issues, and having a Legion character get his own book was a big deal. I didn't stick with it, mainly because of boring art, as I recall. Marvel Treasury Edition #9: Giant Superhero Team-Up, with some real classics from the early days here in the Treasury format. Marvel Two-in-One #14: Bought this one as a "Son of Satan" completist. Omega the Unknown #1: Another new number one, so I bit. Weird stuff--I've always been attracted to stories that don't tell me everything there is to know. Planet of the Apes #17: I was an Apes maniac. Tom Sutton and Alfredo Alcala looked great on this stuff! Plop #20: Plop disappointed me with its new look. After Wolverton and Wood, these gag panel covers looked like amateur hour to me. Skull the Slayer #4: One of the most inconsistent comics ever, this book was all over the place, which disappointed me because I thought the original premise was rich. Spirit #12: Stunning work. The Christmas Spirit! Superboy #215: Loved the Legion. These were always worth the coins. Tomb of Dracula #42: As always, another Wolfman/Colan masterpiece. I was to stick with this one through the end, never sorry about a single purchase.
