Captain America has changed identity a couple times, for good story reasons - first he quit being Cap because he was disillusioned with the country after Watergate in the 70's, and became Nomad, the man without a country. Then in the late 80's, he resigned as Cap after the Reagan administration tried to force him to become a government operative under their control; on that occasion, he continued fighting evil as The Captain, while the government got someone else to play the role of Captain America. The Cat became Tigra after she was turned into a literal cat-woman by a race of cat demons from another dimension. Really. That was a major change that sticked; a rarity indeed. Tigra never wet back to being the Cat again.

Tigra never wet back to being the Cat again. Didn't the original Cat costume & equipment go to Patsy Walker, aka Hellcat? And I recall Dr. Pym changing his moniker to Goliath when he rejoined the Avengers after the year of Cap's Kooky Quartet. He never used the name Giant-Man again, and Clint was Goliath during his first interregnum from archery.

Yep, Patsy got the costume instead of Greer. Never throw away something if it's still good! Yes, mikelmidnight pointed out that Pym took the name Goliath on top of all the others. I believe he was Giant-Man again in the only issue of the Busiek/Perez Avengers that I own (that being issue#1), however. (Perhaps that's because by then "Goliath" had been adopted as Bill Foster's heroic identity).

Ok,
The Man in the Ant Hill (Pre-superhero) Ant-Man Giant Man Goliath Yellowjacket Just plain Hank Pym (This might actually be my favorite version of him. It's the West Coast Avengers! Hawkeye! Tigra! Iron Man! And some rando in a lab-coat!) .... I forget. Giant Man again for a hot minute, I think. And I think he was the "Scientist Supreme" in some of the recent Avengers stuff.

Have we mentioned? That's Superman and Jimmy Olsen. And then there's Luthor's other (heroic) identity, the Defender, and yet another Superman identity, Nova, and Perry White even got into the act as Masterman. And who is the myserious Mysteryman? Why, Commissioner Gordon, of course! And when Batman was killed, who took his place? Here's the answer...

Don't forget the incredible turn of Matt Murdoch taking on a separate identity as his brother Mike Murdoch who isn't blind so that he could convince everyone it is actually Mike and not Matt who is Daredevil! Add in those times when it was T'Challa wearing the Devilsuit and Iron Fist wearing the righteous red and you have a hero who might be more schizo than Moon Knight. And along that same vein there is our good ol' Moonie with his multiple personalities in his civilian role playing.

Remember Alpha Flight? Vindicator became Guardian at one point and they assigned the codename Vindicator a female that literally destroyed my love for ALPHA FLIGHT ... Vindicator / Guardian - FemaleGuardian / Weapon Alpha ... Vindicator - MaleConfusing for a new reader and it's drives you nuts if you are a reader of Alpha Flight ... I was the latter and that's destroyed everything about Alpha Flight!

Hank Pym also took on the identity of The Wasp as a tribute to Jan after she was killed in Civil War.

Kitty Pryde was Sprite, then Ariel, then Shadowcat.

Hank Pym also took on the identity of The Wasp as a tribute to Jan after she was killed in Civil War. Ha! Weird. I... don't think that was Civil War, though? At least the core mini-series. Which I re-read recently. I don't know why either.

I accidentally conflated two abysmally godawful crapfests.
