I love that comics provides such variety in reading choices. Can go from a super hero to a western to a funny animal to horror to mystery to science fiction to fantasy to silly to adventure to infinity and beyond! Such splendid writing in mixing styles and concepts all delivering vivid dream material sometimes beyond anything you can imagine yourself.

I love the brightly colored spandex, the escapist fantasy, the idea of certain individuals meeting some sort of heroic idea, something we can all aspire to; the smell of old comics!; the comraderie between teammates, the artwork...to name a few things.

I love that comics are a combination of sequential art with literary prose that creates a unique creative product that can be enjoyed on some many varied levels.
I love that sometimes it feels real good knowing exactly who are the Good Guys and who are the Bad Guys.
While the 'budget' for a comic is limited only by one's imagination, I love that you can mold your reading experience even more so by perhaps listening to certain music or better yet, the different voices you may 'hear' for characters as you read their dialogue. Where else but in a Batman comic can I 'hear' Kevin Conroy's Batman being aided by Casey Kasem's Robin?

I love
the smell of old comics
the camaraderie of fans, with their "who's stronger" debates and theories
the Classic Comics Forums where we can talk about stuff like this that my wife never was into
universe building, especially DC, where all of the craziness is connected, i.e. Sugar & Spike, Superman, Anthro, Jonah Hex, Sgt Rock, Bat-Mite, the Doom Patrol, Viking Prince, Prez, Brother Power the Geek, Enemy Ace, Sandman, the Rock of Eternity, the Guardians of Oa, Skartaris, purple healing rays, Crisis on Infinite Earths and Cave Carson all connecting to each other somewhere, somehow, depending on what an editor thinks can move some more copies
taking it a step further, inter-company crossovers
seeing your favorite characters re-interpreted on the big screen, or the small screen, or maybe radio or the internet
seeing way more merchandising and clothing than when we were growing up
reinterpretations of characters now and then, giving us another version to shake things up. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't, but the ability to try new things and knowing if they work, we could see more. If not, sort of gloss over it and move on
the ideas - the Fortress of Solitude, the Bat-cave, the Bat Signal, Paradise Island, Asgard, Atlantis, the Green Lantern Corps, the absurdity of Howard the Duck, or Ambush Bug, or Lobo, or a rampaging Hulk that just wants to be left alone in peace, or a Canadian with super metal in his skeleton and a freakish mutant healing ability...
to be continued serial entertainment
newer companies trying to be Bigger Better Stronger Faster and though most die off, some really great stuff comes out of there like Nexus, American Flagg, Grimjack, Usagi Yojimbo, Invincible, The Walking Dead, Preacher, the Authority, etc
the real life history of the businesses and creators that come up with all of these stories and characters we love and the connectivity between them all : accountants, friends and relatives, business partners, rivals, financial shenanigans, copyrights, "inspirations", spin-offs, rip offs, feuds, rivalries, the behind the scenes stories of where the ideas came from and the financial logistics of why this issue got put together this way, etc
there's lots of real world out there, but for a few minutes a day, we can all escape to another world, and dream a little dream

I love the simplicity of a Jaime Hernandez page.

I love the simplicity of a Jaime Hernandez page. I like it too ... Jaime makes it so retro looking and very clean and defined lines too. The colors really POP!

If someone doesn't like Jaime Hernandez stuff ... I'm a huge fan and I enjoyed the humour of his little Marvel heroines vignette, but part of me wishes he had done a "straight" story with those characters, with appropriately altered - i.e. more "heroic" - character designs.

I could see that, but that's not really his style.

I could see that, but that's not really his style. Oh, I think he has more than enough range to do that - look at Penny Century or some of his other female characters.

Oh yeah he has the range but not the desire

I love the fact that anyone can make them, they come in all shapes, sizes, and colors, even B/W.
Ditko, Kirby, Lee, Steranko, Colan, Buscema, Wood, and a couple of Severins, are a some more of my favorite things about comics as well.
Marvel in the Silver Age is another favorite.
