You'd think that after all these years we'd get bored with a story of one samurai getting vengeance on another; and Stan's certainly done more than a few of those in his time. After reading this story though boredom was no where near my mind, though the plot was simplistic the nuances of samurai involved made it interesting. It's those little details that Stan is so masterful at, and those details make all the difference.
