Not even my favorite. But the first WW comic I bought off the stands. nope. not even a gorgeous Bolland Cheetah, Poison Ivy, and Cheshire, can save that dumpster fire of a "costume" Diana is wearing (that he, himself, was involved in designing, right?)

well. .since I recently used my favorite Wondy cover (her lurving on a shark). . . I'll go with this instead. stop it. . . it's not phallic or suggestive * at all* No, there's never been any Wonder woman covers like that. LOL. . yeah, almost went for the bomb one, but "caressing" the building won out in my (dirty) mind.

I gotta say that I love Gene Colan, but I thought he was a terrible match for Wonder Woman. Not that I read Wonder Woman. But it meant that Colan wasn't going to be doing a book he was better suited for that I would read. Especially at that point in his career. There was a time, mostly in the 60s, when Colan and superhero comics were not necessarily a mismatch. But increasingly throughthe 70s it seemed to me that he was losing interest in that genre - at least, whenever he did a fill-in issue of Daredevil or whatever, the result was not up to the standard of his work on Tomb of Dracula, or Dr. Strange, or Howard the Duck, or Night Force, or Nathaniel Dusk. I haven't read any of his DC superhero work from the 80s like Batman or WW, but the online samples I've seen it tend to confirm me in this opinion. I was drafting pretty much the same response in my head. Only differences: I don't know if he was ever particularly interested in superheroes, but like Buscema, Infantino, etc., that's where the work was. I don't necessarily see batman as a superhero, so I though Colan was a pretty good fit. I have a uninked WW splash by Colan, but it doesn't feature any superheroics and the "regular" people really make it.

Well the interior art is by Deodato which, arguably is better at "gorgeous" than Bolland, when it comes to women in comics. So I am sure that was my motivating point to buying it. Especially since I was not familiar with any names involved in the comic at that time, except maybe Loeb who might have done some X-Men comics in that period? And yes that costume is awful. Very awful. Edit: I honestly expect no votes or likes, but it's the first that came to mind when I saw the criteria so I went with it. :shrugs:

^ oh, as a Wondy fan, I was buying and have every issue. . even during this time period.
but every time I see that costume, I get a clenching feeling in my bowels.
what WERE they thinking! (and it's even worse without that leather jacket over it).

That's William Messner-Loebs who wrote that, not Jeph Loeb, so no he hadn't done X-Men comics, as I don't think Messner Loebs has done any Marvel work, just DC and creator-owned indy stuff.

That's what I was remembering, not X-Men! With Deodato as well too. Right before the first volume ended with #502.

I think that other WW costume looks good when Bolland draws it, but terrible by Deodato, who was not a good artist yet.
