What the title says, who's the most difficult and nasty person to work in the comics field ?

I thought you were talking about the best writer of heart-wrenching stories!
Certain creators were arrested on charges ranging from rape to murder by way of fraud, so they have the nasty part covered.
As for being hard to work with, I heard that Robert Kanigher, for all that he could write a great war story, was not a very pleasant collaborator.

Mort Weisinger had a reputation as a real wanker.
Arthur Suydam is reportedly a major tool.

Al Capp was no day at the beach.
Also, Funky Flashman had quite the ego.

Sad story about one of my favourite artists treating a fan pretty shabbily. Oh, why can't they all be as nice as Stan Sakai???

Well, according to everyone whoever worked with Bob Kane, it was Bob Kane.
I attended a Golden Age Batman panel made up of Jerry Robinson, Sheldon Moldoff and Lew Sayre Schwarz and they all had Bob Kane stories. Especially Moldoff! He was hilarious, bagging on Bob Kane. Just one more reason Sheldon Moldoff is AWESOME!

I don't know about being difficult to work with, but my daughter and I met Arthur Suydam at a convention earlier this year and he was quite pleasant to talk with even though we didn't wind up buying anything from his table.

I too met Suydam at a convention and he was quite nice.
Golden was standoff-ish, but all right.
I got autographs and a commissioned Baron Karza from him.

(...) and a commissioned Baron Karza from him. I am more than a little envious, you know. Golden is like unto a god to me. If I could, I'd commission a calf from him. Then I could worship a Golden calf. (Badum *tsss*! )

The two experiences I've had with Golden were not pleasant. By no means was he rude and surly, but as other mentioned, he's stand-offish. I was doing some charity work at a convention where we were gathering signatures on a guitar from all the guests. My friend and I walk up to his booth and we tell him who we are and what we do. We tell him and then he just says "And why should I sign this?" "Uh.. for charity and just being a nice guy?" "I'll think about it;" and he goes back to his sketch he's working on. We're standing there and we leave. Come back an hour later, and ask him. Letting out a sigh "Fine.. I'll sign" The other time was personal and just asked him to sign a few issue of The Nam; maybe I caught him on a bad day, I don't know... just didn't like him.

Sad story about one of my favourite artists treating a fan pretty shabbily. I was on the Comic Art board when this hit, and it seemed to go on for weeks. But it was pretty shabby treatment of a fan. On the whole, though, most pros I've met at conventions are pretty positive, though some have off days. I'd met one artist a couple of times at shows and he seemed fine; my friend saw him at another and complained "What a dick!" the rest of the weekend. I only had one artist act like a dick toward me, but it wasn't really a surprise based on what I'd heard. (Also, Kanigher was the first name that sprung to mind when I saw this.)

Maybe Jack Miller. He dealt with a whole lot of sob stories in all those romance comics.
