#1. Written by Alex Segura and Matthew Rosenberg. Art and Cover by Joe Eisma. An Ongoing series by the same creative team that did the One Shot earlier this year. The issue continues from the One Shot Special. Archie & the band have hit a roadblock. Sustaining a band takes time, money & work. Unfortunately their individual lives get in the way. Archie is despondent until the rest of the band step up & get new equipment, a van & Veronica gets them a gig in LA. The creative team have hit a nice balance with this series mixing the 5 core characters together in a band, mixing in music & having them go on "tour". It is a nice counterpart to what is going on in the other Archie title. It will be nice to see the group get out of Riverdale for awhile. 9/10.

#32. Script by James Bonny. Art & cover by Tyler Kirkham. Last issue the focus was on Lois which I liked. This issue was a battle between Superman & Deathstroke which was a setup by Amanda Waller to see how far they could push Superman to his breaking point. It was a bit silly & contrived. I liked the art. 4/10.The Superman titles need to get back on track.

#30. Script by Tim Seeley. Art by Miguel Mendonca. Cover by Javi Fernandez. Raptor is back (ugh) & he is in Bludhaven to ruin Nightwing's life. Through a series of events Nightwing is driven to seek out Blockbuster for help in driving Raptor out of Bludhaven. Man I have mixed feelings about this story. I am NOT a fan of Raptor. But this scenario of Nightwing teaming with an enemy to fight him intrigues me. 6/10. Hopefully the end of this arc will redeem the inclusion of Raptor.

Thoughts on Superman #32: Filler, but had interesting moments. I enjoyed the scene with Lois and Clark at the park. I enjoyed the sequence at the Daily Planet and then seeing Lois and Jimmy on the scene. Interesting to see how far Superman's limits can be pushed when someone he loves is in danger and how he sticks to his no kill policy. Pretty pointless story just to see how far Superman can be pushed by Amanda Waller (a character I absolutely despise). I liked Deathstroke in the 2 issues. The art was better in this issue and while I liked it, I believe it would be a better fit for a Deathstroke type book. 6/10

The Archies #1: Archie Comics delivers another hit. Archie and the gang can't decide where to go as a band after their initial show and the issue revolves around that. I thought the scene with Jughead and the merchandising was funny and I enjoyed seeing Archie, Betty, Veronica, Reggie, and Jughead in a story together acting like friends (in the other titles, Reggie doesn't seem to be a core character anymore). Also nice to see Bingo Wilkins and his crew in the story. It could be that I am just old and am really enjoying the Archie nostalgia, but the Archie comics are the ones I look most forward to each month. I am even buying old Archie comic lots on Ebay, haha! This was a great story with equally great art, characterization, and fun. 10/10

Stat Wars #37 Written by Jason Aaron Art by Salvador Larocca Summary: Scar Squad hunts down and destroys a Rebel out post, and in the Back Up Obi-Wan watches over a young tuscan raider. Plot: I've enjoyed Aaron's run on Star Wars and I'm pretty disappointed that it's over especially as it seems to be a premature ending which caused his Scar Squad story to be rushed to its conclusion. While this story wasn't stunning it did feature one interesting moment in which the Storm troopers talked about why they were for the Empire which was an interesting insight that I would have loved to see developed further. The real heart of the issue though was the coda with Obi-Wan. It was basically a day in the life of a village of Sandpeople and the hardships they endure narrated by Obi-Wan, it has a touching look at the sand people and the documentary like look was really unique. I'm sure Gillian's forthcoming run will be good but I'm going to miss Aaron.

Spirits of Vengeance #1Written by Victor Gischler Art by David Baldeon Summary: A war is brewing and the only ones who can stop it aren't very nice. Ghost Rider, Son of Satan, and Blade team up to save the world in this new miniseries. Plot: I was pretty excited when I saw this Giant Sized X-Men like cover on the racks, and the characters are a fun mix but by the end of the issue I wasn't completely sold. The Character work with Ghost Rider and Son of Satan was really strong and I liked hard boiled detective feel of the story but the threat wasn't very well defined and the pacing was so slow that by the end of the issue we hadn't even met the whole team yet. Though I usually enjoy that kind of world building this is a five issue miniseries so time is a real precious commodity and it makes me wonder how things are going to turn out as the story progresses. Art: David Baldeon's art is the best part of this book for me, and that's really surprising. I'm only familiar with Baldeon's cartoonish, expressive style because the kid's I taught at Summer Camp last year loved the Tsum Tsum book and I have to admit I ended up liking it too but looking at that you wouldn't think his style would seem to lend itself well to horror, but that's exactly why the book succeeds. There's a fun juxtaposition between his almost lighthearted character designs and the dark subject matter of the book that gives it a real sense of energy that makes you want to linger on each page. The story may be slow but I think I'll stay for the art.

Iceman #6: I picked this since the old Champions were on the cover-a lot has changed since I last checked in with Iceman. The Champions reunite to remember the now dead Black Widow. (Haven’t read Marvel in years, had no idea she died). They find that their old HQ is now a gym and lament how times have changed. The team ends up having to fight a reactivated Sentinel at the end of the story (something about a lady that wants to start her own special effects company and she’s mixed up in the Sentimel business). Iceman also goes on his first date with a man. There was lots going on from the date to the reunion to the sentinel. The art wasn’t bad. The dialogue was hard to follow in places and seemed more geared to a younger person (there’s a texting scene with Kitty Pryde)I’ll probably pick Up the next issue to see the Champions in action. 6/10
