I probably have 70-100 X-Men Comics, ranging from X-Factor to X-Force and Uncanny along with the Jim Lee title that I collected well into the Lobdell/Kubert era.
Still kicking myself for giving away the first apperarance of Gambit issue when I was a kid.
I did pick up the first volumes of Whedon’s and Morrison’s runs in trades much later but didn’t keep up with them.

I've got the first 3 masterworks volumes and everything else in original floppies, including virtually every guest appearance in other titles.

X-Men was the first comic book property I got truly serious about. Rereading those issues is what got me back into comics as an adult, as well as what first brought me to the old Classic Comics board eleven years ago.

(I assume you're not still buying them from previous comments). Incidently, if I didn't already say this, you might want to check out X-Men Gold... it's really Kitty Pride and her Uncanny Friends... even the cross over event stuff didn't change the focus.

The Onslaught storyline, I think. I find I'm not interested in Kitty as an adult. it was her youthful exhuberance in contrast to the war-weary X-Men that endeared her to me. Even on Whedon's Astonishing X-Men, she was one aspect I couldn't fully get into.

Really? I actually like her alot as an adult, where I found her kinda annoying before. She's still a bit overly perfect, but it works now, IMO. The current series definitely follows Whedon's characterization of her.. so if you weren't into that, I guess not then.
It's still pretty 'classic' though.. more than it's been since Onslaught for sure.
