With a void left by the absence of our First Family, DC is introducing The Terrifics led by Mr. Terrific.
Other members include Metamorpho (Thing), Phantom Girl (Invisible Woman) and Plastic Man (Mr Fantastic).
We knew this was spinning out of Metal, but yesterday found out they'll be joined by the Tom Strong family of characters from Jim Lee's ABC imprint at Wildstorm / Image.
Very glad to hear this !

Looking forward to this. Kesel's love for the FF has been known of for a long time so I can see him pouring a ton of effort into this project. Bring it on and create a whole DCU family in this and deliver up a DC Los Fantastico's Quatro's version of Hispanic's too while they are at it!

Why have the FF been in limbo for the last few years anyway?
Is it a case of Marvel putting them on the backburner and trying their damndest to shove the Inhumans down everyone's throats or what?

Hickman says it's because of the movie rights. Marvel says it's because they don't sell. It's probably a combo of both. It's easy to avoid the Inhumans. Just don't read the books.

I avoid all of mainstream Marvel at this point. Pretty much the same for DC. Only books on my pull list now are Black Hammer, Walking Dead, Southern Bastards and Punisher: Platoon. Image and Darkhorse stomped Marvel and DC into the ground years ago as far as I'm concerned. But I'd be willing to give a new FF book a try. I was surprised just how much I liked Hickman's run.

The Terrifics look...terrific! I do miss the FF. I will be trying Marvel 2 in 1 starring the Thing & the Human Torch. I do agree Kesel would be AWESOME on FF. He is one of my favorite writers that does not get the recognition he deserves.

I'm unsure about this. I like Lemire (I love his creator-owned stuff. I'm indifferent to his mainstream stuff). I love Doc Shaner's work.
I'm not remotely excited about shoehorning Tom Strong into the DCU. It's not a good fit. Like the Marvel Family.
I'll see how the review are and maybe read a trade.

I was interested until I learned they were shoehorning the Tom Strong stuff in. Pretty much all the post-Moore Tom Strong stuff I have sampled has been pedestrian at best and terrible at worst. I love LeMire's creator-owned stuff, but his big 2 stuff has been hit or miss with miss being more frequent to me. So this may be a sample if it hits the library or Hoopla for me and decide from there.

Yeah, Tom Strong was great as a stand alone, but the DCU seems a bad fit. Astro City, maybe.

Love Tom Strong but if this book and 'team' are supposed to be some analogue of the FF, then how would Tom and his own family fit into this scenario? (And while the absence of Moore in this instance is understandable and expected, the absence of Chris Sprouse with Tom Strong is equally noticeable).
Is Doc Shaner providing art for this title? All I saw was his contributing new character designs.
My biggest interest is the addition of Phantom Girl. Yet another Legionnaire in the present which raises the question of how and why even higher.

Phantom Girl was previously in the present back in the 90's in L.E.G.I.O.N. as Phase

The thing about Tom Strong (I only read the first trade of Moore's work, need to get on reading the whole series) is that I'm not sure there's much appeal to him beyond his association with Alan Moore. This seems like a mixture of desperation and DC grasping at anything related to Moore now that that bridge is a smoldering ruin. This is what DC doesn't seem to get--as good as the concepts and characters were in most of Moore's DC work, it was his writing style and intelligence that were the stars of Watchmen, Swamp Thing, Tom Strong, etc, not the characters. I love characters too, but sometimes a creator outshines the mythos.
It's just sad (and kind of hilarious) that DC is publishing a series that's in part a jab at Marvel for not publishing its most iconic and historically important series.

I'm happy to see Lemire back at DC.
I really dug what he did with Superboy, Frankenstein and then Green Arrow.

I've don't know much about Tom Strong at all and remains a mystery (honest) to me; and this group lead my Mr. Terrific with Metamorpho, Phantom Girl, and Plastic Man to create a DC Version of the Fantastic Four that left a void that there is no Fantastic Four due to movie's rights and all that. I'm remaining very skeptical about this group that being put together and this news kind of surprised me a lot. Being a lover of the Fantastic Four, I'm going to give this group a shot and see whether I like it or not.

Tom Strong is a tie-in with The Terrifics that helps give them more exposure.
How many people know about Tom Strong or the fact that Moore designated him as a Science Hero instead of superhero ?
Rolling them in helps to raise their profile and exposes them to a new generation, keeping them relevant.
The Terrifics are the core and the Strong Family secondary players, like the Inhumans.
