CBR articleOverseen by editor Mark Doyle, it's to feature major talent either creating titles or curating them (as Gerard Way is doing with Young Animal line). It definitely needs a revitalization, but I'll wait and see what actually gets launched. Hints are new Sandman and new Invisibles. Sandman only interests me if it's Gaiman, and Invisibles was very much a product of the millennial fever and not sure it would resonate as well today, but we'll see. -M

Great news! Vertigo was one of the best things to happen to comics (especially when it did.)

I wonder what they can offer to creators this time that they'll go for Vertigo over Image or one of the other Indie publishers. That was the main reason Vertigo ceased to exist before: their contracts were not attractive compared to either working on Big Two titles (little control, but steady income) or independents (less financial security, but more control and ownership of your creations).

Image seems to be having difficulty keep series going lately... lots of late books and breaks. I know that's not necessarily their fault (could be indy work taking a back seat to better paying Big 2... slowness by the creators, etc), but perhaps if they can offer a deal that fixes that they can get some good stuff.
It also could start back up with the exclusive contracts. Those seemed to go out of fashion when creators started using the Big 2 to make a name and let them sell their own property elsewhere.. but maybe if you can do both with DC they can start locking up talent again.

Didn't they just relaunch not that long ago?

Didn't they just relaunch not that long ago? It wasn't a relaunch, just a launch of a number of new titles at the same time, all done under the new contract terms and none did all that well even though there was some good stuff among the books launched. They also promoted the quarterly antholology (the CMYK stuff) as a new beginning, but not necessarily a relaunch. I look forward to seeing what comes of this, but from what I see it's relying on new versions of old successful titles (another Sandman story, a new Invisibles book, etc.) rather than actually breaking new ground the way Vertigo once did, and I am not sure the Vertigo brand holds the cachet it once had to be able to spearhead that kind of success anymore. I hope something comes of it, but I hold out more hope for the Berger Books imprint at Dark Horse than I do for whatever form Vertigo itslef takes. I hope I am wrong, but nothing I have seen associated iwth the relaunch has really got me fired up. -M

I wanted to, but never felt Shelly Bond was nearly of the same caliber as Karen Berger. Her Black Crown imprint is not appealing to me, however, I'll definitely try some of Berger Books
Vertigo's 25th will see the return of popular classic Vertigo characters and titles the aforementioned Sandman, the Invisibles, American Vampire and the American Way.
Can't say it's a bad strategy as those were all well received.
The Berger Books line has 4 titles and a re-release scheduled.
All of them look and feel like the Vertigo we love. I'll probably try all of them. The most appealing one is Mata Hari.
I knew she'd come back and I'm glad she's at DH, both class acts.
