Action 989: oz has an encounter with Lois and tries to lure Jon to his side while Superman ponders Oz’s claims about himself and earth. Lois shines in this issue as she negotiates with a terrorist (someone mixed up with Oz) who bursts in the Daily Planet threatening to blow it up. Oz also reveals some of his plans to Superboy. The issue was enjoyable, especially the scenes with Lois. The part with Oz and Jon was a bit too reminiscent of the Manchester Black bit. I am interested to see where this all goes. Dan Jurgens provides story and break down art, which is unflatteringly finished by viktor bogdonavich. 7.5/10

Uncanny Avengers #28: a few years ago I read Uncanny Avengers as I liked the characters on the team. I dropped the book after a long drawn out story with Kang and quickly forgot about the title. This week I noticed it with the Beast and Wonder Man on the cover-and couldn’t pass it up! I enjoyed the issue and caught on pretty quickly thanks to a recap. I loved seeing Beast and Wonder Man catching up and rehashing their pasts. The scenes where they fight Whirlwind are pure fun. Lots of interesting character interactions with Rogue and wasp, quicksilver and synapse (never heard of her), and human Torch who inherits billions of dollars from Reed and Sue Richards. (No idea what happened to the fantastic four). There is a quick scene between quicksilver and scarlet witch where he is apparently unhappy with her use of magic. This was an interesting and character driven book by Jim Zub with art by Sean Izaaks. Minor things with Izaaks art bothered me, but overall it’s a solid issue and nice reintroduction to the team. 8/10

Archie Halloween Spectacular: nothing earth shattering here, just fun and uncomplicated Halloween stories. There are three stories featuring Archie, Reggie, Betty, Veronica, and Jughead. They look like they are fairly recent stories. My favorite was the Little Archie story where Little Veronica’s party goes all wrong and Mr. Lodge gets the last laugh (he does in the second story too). I would’ve like some older stories and more pages (it is a spectacular, after all). However, I found myself smiling as I read it, so it was 2.99 well spent. 6/10

I somehow managed to miss the first issue of the new Runaways, so I'm starting the series with issue 2. The premise of the series is to return to the original Runaways (except Alex, presumably), with all that entails, which is kind of fine, as I thought some of the deaths in the series were pretty gratuitious and y'know death is comic books is rarely fatal.
The trouble is, that the execution is pretty poor - unbelievable dialogue and Kris Anka on minimalist cartoony art. I'll give it one more issue, but so far, I'm really disappointed in this.
