Spinach has always been my go-to for leafy greens. I'm sure some of that is due to having imprinted on Popeye when I was young. Also, it is an objectively fun word to hear and say, even if you choose to leave off the "k" at the end.

Not that I miss the Politics thread at all and not that I'm wanting to instigate a political discussion now, but these have certainly been some interesting times for American politics in recent weeks. It would be interesting to discuss it all with some of you Americans, just to compare thoughts and opinions on everything that's been going on. If you want to start a group chat in PMs, add my name to the list. Late to the party as I was on vacation, but ditto.

As do I, but I avoid it like the plague due to its extremely high oxalate content-- which the primary component of 90% of kidney stones.
I've had my share of stones over the years, and raw spinach is one of those items (along with black tea) that I simply do not partake on a regular basis for this reason. Certain changes in my diet have reduced stone occurrences from about once a year to about once every 5-7 years.
Cooking spinach removes almost all of the oxalate from the leaf itself, but leaves it in the pot liquor, so there's that. Who wants to eat cooked greens of any kind without the pot liquor and a big piece of cornbread?
I pretty much limit my raw spinach intake to once every blue moon... it's damn good in a salad.

Someone else posted this in another thread:
I must confess, I have that same problem 95% of the time. More often that not, I just have to leave it and simply acknowledge the original poster. Like the above poster, I only encounter problems when I try to trim the quote down; if I don’t trim it, quoting is fine!
I don’t know if Proboards could make it easier, or whether there’s some obvious thing I am doing wrong, but just thought I’d mention it. Happy for any guidance on how I might be able to turn quoting into an easy task for myself.
Sorry for the intrusion on the far better spinach debate, which has been fun to read. One might ask why Bluto doesn’t bring his own spinach to a fight with Popeye…

I just type my response first and afterwards delete the parts of the original post that takes up too much space.

One might ask why Bluto doesn’t bring his own spinach to a fight with Popeye… That was from one of my posts. It's nice to know that I'm not alone and that it is more of a defect in the board's functions rather than my own inexperience. Also nice to know that others share my love for spinach. I'm not sure when it became my favourite food, but it was at least 20 years ago when I started to try to eat mostly healthy stuff, or at least what I perceive to be healthy. I don't read, track or even understand the nutritional labels on the foods I eat, but I kinda just assume if it's a vegetable and green it has to be good for you. I don't cook or put dressing on my vegetables. Anyone I know can attest to my compulsion to have at least a spare unopened pack of spinach on hand for when the first one runs out. On holidays like Christmas when I've got extra family over and when the stores are closed I actually make a point to keep my spare in the trunk of my car where no one else can get to it, because even though my peculiar eating habits are well-known to my family, they somehow don't always care when it comes to eating all my food. I actually don't care what else is in my fridge, and I'm fine if there's at least a good supply of spinach. Other greens like lettuce, broccoli, cucumbers are an acceptable substitute for a short period, but spinach is the top priority on my weekly shopping list. If I could figure out how to grow it myself I would, but the last time I planted some I wasn't too sure if it actually grew, or if the stuff I ate was just weeds from the stuff around it.

re: the quote thing, the workaround is to type your response in BBCode mode instead of Preview, OR to type a response before you start trimming quotes. You can even just toss in a placeholder "a" or something, it holds the space. No idea why it does this, but that annoyed me too, so I found out how to avoid it lol.

That's pretty much the workaround I've been using. I just have to remember to do that first. I almost forgot to do it just now, even though you literally said it in the comment I was quoting

Has anyone heard from Prince Hal lately? I haven't seen him posting on here for a couple of weeks or so. Hope everything's OK.

Has anyone heard from Prince Hal lately? I haven't seen him posting on here for a couple of weeks or so. Hope everything's OK. No, but I wondered if something was off, in our last exchange. Several weeks back I posted, semi-serious, semi-jokingly, about a news piece about expected high rates of cancer, within Gen X, based on medical data and models and he seemed to take offense at part of it, like I was attacking the Baby Boom generation, which surprised the heck out of me. Maybe I just struck a nerve or worded something poorly; but, I noticed I hadn't seen him posting in threads, not long after that. We usually had pleasant and interesting exchanges. I, too, hope everything is okay.

I also noticed his absence and checked in with him over email a couple weeks ago. He was fine and is having a busy summer in the offline world.
