Sigh... That same hall-mate was crossfaded even worse tonight and we had to stay up till 4 AM before we could get him to go to bed. This was not how I planned to spend my Saturday night....

I think the weakness of the first season of STNG is being overstated. There are more good episodes than bad, and the last 5 or so episodes are really good.

I was looking at the wiki of STNG and submit to you that season 1 is stronger than season 2 . Although season 2 introduces the Borg.

I've never had a sardine, and I'm an adventurous eater. They ring a vague bell for me. Must've had them once or twice back in, maybe my teens or 20s. Don't recall being repelled or anything, but obviously I wasn't exactly entranced, either.

I can eat sashimi all day, but with tuna steaks it needs to be at least medium. Something about the texture of raw tuna doesn't work well in large chunks. Ive eaten tuna sashami and sushi too. I've eyed tuna steaks at the Asian market here but always end up buying salmon or tilapia, two of my favorite fish to eat. I think I'm worried even if it's fresh it'll taste like canned tuna, and feel like I wasted money.

I'm hearing more repulsive and inappropriate crap spewing from YouTube on my kids iPods and computers than any other site. Today I'm hearing in the background while doing laundry (cause as Bill Cosby said kids are smart enough to know sound travels) what sounds like them watching Spongebob episodes until I realize some jackass degenerate has inserted foul words into the episodes so he can talk about all manner of sexuality explicit acts.
You can report it and block that specific user but it's all over. People using kids things and making them foul. Or foul mouthed video game commentators who both the boys come across trying to get help with their games. By the time they do get to watching porn on the devices I'm gonna be like "meh"

Tilapia & its dubious attributes are a running joke in the local foodie FB group (not that I consider myself remotely a foodie -- it's just that, & I swear to god this is true, there's really nothing to do in Montgomery except eat out), though I don't have a particular problem with it. It falls far short of catfish (but then what doesn't), but if prepared the right way seems perfectly OK to me. About 3 months ago, because of rising costs, the owner of the meat-&-three place across the street from the base where a co-worker & I eat fish just about every Friday started offering it in place of catfish. The first time, I had it fried (as I do catfish), & it was quite lacking. Tried it baked the next week, though, & it was pretty decent; lemon salt, IIRC, helped considerably. In any event, after that he went back to catfish, no doubt after grumbling among the clientele. Not that I have any business eating fried food from a Crohn's standpoint, but as long as it's not drenched in grease -- & this place's fish certainly isn't -- I seem to do OK. Knock wood. If catfish were removed from my dietary options, I strongly suspect I'd have little problem returning to a vegetarian diet 100 (as opposed to 90 or so, as is the case these days) percent of the time. Much as I like, as mentioned previously, fresh tuna & salmon (& also shrimp), I get them only every few years on average.

I've only had tilapia (at least when I cook it) grilled. I've had it other ways at resturants but I'm almost positive I've never had it fried. I know I've seen it that way frozen at the supermarket but I'd rather have it fresh or not all. Fresh fish is about the only way to est it.
Catfish I do like fried. Very good that way. Flounder is also very good the one time I had it in Shreveport or Bossier City, can't remember. I had some delicious fried alligator in that same meal too.
The closest I could do going in the direction of vegetarian is giving up red meat. If ground beef weren't so cheap and available I would cut more of it out. But fish, shellfish and poultry I don't think I could give up

Fried catfish is good as long as it's actual whole fillets. Any time I've had it pieces/nuggets it's had a 70/30 breading to fish ratio.

Shreveport or Bossier City, can't remember. Same difference. Bossier, I think, is a little seedier, if that's possible. Not sure which of them my dad died in, but I think my last surviving aunt (now deceased as well, alas) told me the motel was in Bossier when I asked a few years ago. I've stayed in both during my December trips back home. Used to get a room in the town where I went to college, about 16 miles from my hometown, where my sister lives in the nursing home, but of course there are a lot more motel & restaurant options in Shreveport/Bossier, even though it's about 90 minutes away. Besides, as noted, the cousin I always visit lives only a few miles from there, in my dad's hometown. Being unaware of which one it was, I occasionally wonder if I'm staying in the motel where he died ... maybe even in the very room. Not likely, though, since much more often than not I'm at a place that wouldn't have existed back in 9/67.

I have friends, & for that matter know (via the aforementioned FB page) chefs, who say whole (i.e. bones, head, tail) or nothing. I'll take fillets, though. Not sure if smaller pieces have ever been an option anyplace I've been, but probably I'm forgetting something. I assume nuggets are a fast-food thing; not my cup of tea ... or, probably more apropos, my cup of grease.

The best fried catfish (which I much prefer to grilled/blackened) I've had is from Chicken Express. Huge fillets, perfect breading and (amazingly considering the rest of their menu) not greasy.

Not sure what they are, & not willing to explore. Chicken Express presumably is a chain; we don't have it/them around here. Come to think of it, I've seen several glowing FB mentions of the catfish at a fried-chicken fast-food(ish) (I gather; never been there) place about 4 miles down the road from me. I'll have to check it out sometime.
