So I just saw this today. I have to say that I was quite pleased. I felt like it was definitely better than Guardians 2 which seemed to really try too hard an build off the formula of the first film. This seems clearly the best out of the three Thor movies. Maybe that isn't saying much for a lot of people, but I'd put it on the side of Marvel's better films.
The cast was great. You have a lot of talent here so that isn't surprised. I will say that Cate Blanchett as Hela doesn't get much to do accept basically get comfortable with her new role on Asgard as the new queen while Thor is prisoner on the planet Sakaar. Also, she doesn't have much dimension which at this point is par for the course with a lot of Marvel bosses. In the film universe at least. Karl Urban especially gets nothing to do, doesn't have much dialogue let alone screen time. Also Idris Elba. But like I said before, it is a big cast with a lot of big names, and unfortunately some folks are just going to have to take a backseat. Thor, Hulk, Valkyrie, and Loki are front in center. The plan to get back to Asgard to stop Hela is the basic deal, which is to be expected.
The fight scenes are MAGNIFICENT. Marvel Studios just seems to take it to a new level visually when everyone knuckles up. Yeah, it can look like a video game at times, but it didn't feel the same as Batman v. Superman's light show. Maybe because I actually cared about the narrative.
I've read some reviews from forum folk on CBR, and people are already dejected not having seen the film yet. I can understand some long time, invested Thor fans not liking what the Thor character has become on film. There is that awkward humor which is a staple now of all these Marvel movies, but it doesn't get in the way like I thought it did with Guardians 2. Which is interesting, but there is a lot of it.
At the very least I think most people are going to like it. I liked Spider Man Homecoming, but I think I like this more. I actually might go see it again at the cinema.
By the way there are TWO post credit scenes. I will say you can probably skip them though. The last one has to do with Jeff Goldblum's character and it's just a "oh haha" one. The first comes after the initial fancy credits, and barely reveals anything that if you blink you'll miss it. And if you do miss it it won't matter.
