(Unfortunately Nicola Scott's work is too recent to qualify.) Nicola Scott has credits in the industry going back to 2004, and covers apearing in 2006, so she could qualify if you wanted to use her, you just have to track those covers down. I remembered an offhand comics form her on FB saying she had been in the industry over 10 years and did a quick search on GCD to ascertain the dates after you posted. -M

Amanda Conner I thought about using an Amanda Conner cover, but I became a fan of Ms. Conner with her 2009 Power Girl series, so I'm not that familiar with any of her work that's old enough to qualify. However, I did a little research (after I posted the Marie Severin cover) and I found a couple of great JSA Classified covers that would qualify ... but Marie Severin's Hulk covers are just too awesome to remove.

Colorists...to me, they are part of the art. Maybe not as much as the artist (because most great artist's work still look great in black and white) but to me colour is a key part of making a cover pop, and Tatjana Wood gets a lot of credit for the colour on DC books through the 70's. Like this one. Kubert did draw it and maybe this bucks the topic of "only women" but for me, its worth posting.
Interesting how many wives worked as colorists: Michelle Wolfman, Glynis Oliver Wein, Tatjana Wood, Leslie Zahler. Of course some were already working in the business when they met their husbands and some got into things alongside their spouses. Roz Kirby even lent a hand a time or two. Lynn Varley and Paty Cockrum, too.

I knew Nicola had done some work before the stuff where I first became aware of her ( Birds of Prey), but never really looked it up. But I'll stick with the awesome Joyce Chin cover.

While it isn't her oldest work, it is the first I had seen of hers. I was watching Gargoyles on TV, and so wanted to read the comics too. She did a lot of interior art on Vengeance of Vamperilla starting in 94. But I know I had to buy them in 98 or later when I moved out. Because if I brought those home, my mother would have burned them and prayed for my soul. And even then, for the sake of the contest, she didn't do any of the covers for Vengeance of Vampirella.

Marie Severin was also a talented colorist. She did a lot of the coloring for the EC Comics line. If I remember correctly, she was the main colorist for the line and did most of the stories in titles like Tales from the Crypt, Weird Science and Two-Fisted Tales.

the great Mary Fleener I had the pleasure of meeting her at SDCC years ago. Sadly, she's only done a few undergrounds, but I love her stuff. I'm thinking of printing this off later in large digital format and framing it as a print.

One of my favorites, Ana Miralles. If you haven't read Djinn and experienced her work, you're missing out on some spectacular artwork
