I did get all of the Avengers stories. I was thinking to do an ongoing series that shows more unknown adventures. None of the previous limited attempts sold well enough to make it an ongoing, so what incentive do they have to try an ongoing now? The target audience for such a book is aged out beyond any desirable demographic that could build future sales or bring in advertising revenue so there's no long term gain and past indicators already said there's no short term gain in sales either, and that's not "The Avengers" to the demographic that has the potential to be a long term customer so there's no investment in the brand for future returns by doing it. Jeez, what a kill joy you are sometimes, mrp. This whole thread is for people to fantasise about the dream projects that they'd like to see. We're not interested in market viability, demographic considerations or company policy -- we just wanna dream, Godammit!

Back in 1978 or 1979, Roy Thomas floated the idea (perhaps half jokingly) of a four issue mini-series based around Jaxxon, the green space-rabbit from Marvel's Star Wars that I have as my avatar. Obviously, I'm a big fan of that most maligned of characters, and would've loved to have seen such a project reach fruition. But really, any on-going series, focusing in on the Marvel created characters from the company's Bronze Age Star Wars comic would've been awesome.
Similarly, I'd love to see Marvel do a series today that carries on the original Marvel Star Wars continuity, picking up right where the last issue from 1986 left off. I'd want it to have as many of the original creatives who worked on the series as can be assembled. I'd be all over that in a heartbeat.

We're not interested in market viability, demographic considerations or company policy -- we just wanna dream, Godammit! Unrealistic expectations only add to life's disappointments and lead to people becoming more bitter and cynical and to wallow in negativity about what is. And if you want to make real change, you first have to comprehend what the reality is that you are starting from or any attempts at change will be futile because they don't account for what you are actually trying to change. Trying to make changes without first taking into account the reality only leads to frustration and failure, and more disappointment, cynicism and negativity. Dreams only come true if one understands the path to achieving them, and what good are dreams if they can't propel one towards a better reality. I don't do what I do to be a buzzkill but to provide a reality check so if people are serious about their dreams they have a starting place to begin trying to make those dreams a reality and understand what needs to be changed for it to happen. Don't just dream, DO! -M

Team him up with Jar Jar Binks, and you're looking at sell-through of at least one or two percent!

Add the Ewoks and it would end the Star Wars series for good.

Unrealistic expectations only add to life's disappointments... That's what she said! Seriously though, I wasn't having a dig at you. My tongue was planted firmly in cheek. It's just that this thread is, after all, nothing more than a fantasy "wish list". I don't think anyone's seriously has a realistic "dream" expectation of a Kandor or Jaxxon mini-series any time soon. It's just a bit of fun. Real world considerations don't really apply.

Though it might sound a bit superior and "holier than thou", I've long been of the opinion that if you dislike the Ewoks, then you've kinda missed the point of what Star Wars is about.

What do you mean? I have no strong feelings on Ewoks either way, I'm just curious.

I missed the point. Ha! Your lack of respect for 6ft tall, green space-bunnies betrayed that fact loooooong ago.

Looking at aborted projects, there is the aborted Spectrum line of comics, that were to again revive the MLJ/Archie heroes in more modern, grittier stories. The work was being assembled from people like Len Wein, Marv Wolfman and Steve Engelhart, as well as Jim Valentino and Rob Liefeld (can't all be winners). However, it was looking a bit too dark; and, Archie pulled the plug on the whole thing in 1989. However, two years later, we would get the Impact line version of those characters, from DC. They had more going for them than the previous Red Circle attempt; but, were still aimed at a younger audience than DC proper. I'll be covering that in my Other Guys thread, in more detail.
