Titans #18 by Dan Abnett and Brett Booth: Nice to have Booth back on art. The issue is a big fight scene with some nice moments between the characters throughout. No big revelations about Troia or Donna...or really any resolution. It's like when this story was being mapped up they said, "Hey let's introduce an evil Donna from the future!" "yeah, everyone will think they are getting more information on her background! Everyone will love it!" Not so much. This storyline really went nowhere for me now that it is winding up. 5/10

Action Comics 993 by Dan Jurgens with Joe Prado and Cam Smith on finished art. Very fun issue dealing with the time hiccups in the DCU, this time surrounding Krypton's destruction. Booster Gold shines in the story and looks phenomenal (as does the art, although there is a very obvious change in inkers mid way through the story--the first half looks awesome, the second half kind of generic). There is a nice cameo by The Flash as well as a subplot about Lois Lane's father. Superman finds himself witnessing Krypton's final moments and sees images he is familiar with and ones that he is not. He is totally confused as to what is going on and there is a very classic cliffhanger. The art layout is awesome--it reminded me of reading 80s and 90s comics and there are lots of well rendered splash pages. Action Comics at its best. 9/10

Wonder Woman #36 by James Robinson and Carlo Pagulayan: This issue read much like bad fan-fiction with laughable dialogue, uninteresting characters, and predictable plot twists. Wonder Woman is at Grail and Jason's mercy as she pleads with her brother to come to his senses. He complains he is jealous of her, blah, blah, blah. The most interesting part of the book is an interlude with Steve and Giganta. I did like the art. 4/10

The Archies #3 by Alex Sugura, Matthew Rosenberg, and Joe Eisma. Another fun issue featuring Archie and his friends out on the road playing shows. The band meets real life band Chvrches at a radio station as creative tension emerges between Archie and Betty. Chvrches is portrayed as encouraging and cool (not familiar with them in real life) as they help Archie understand where Betty is coming from and about thinking of the band rather than the individual. The gang does encounter more hiccups--their hotel burns down, Reggie tries a new sound, and of course Jughead is thinking of food. The art is awesome and each character has a unique look. Kind of cheesy in places, but hey, it's an Archie comic....and lots of fun. Also a neat play list is included in the back of the book that you can listen to on Spotify. 8.5/10

Fighting American #3. Written by Gordon Rennie. Art by Duke Mighten. Cover by Andie Tong. Let's see. FA & Speedboy continue to adjust to life in 2017. Actually Speedboy likes it more than FA. FA is convinced they will be able to return to 1954. We see more of Chaos Lad's plan revealed. We get some more great social commentary. And FA reveals himself to the media...but the FBI is NOT happy about this. Rennie & Mighten continue to pay homage to Simon & Kirby's Fighting American. The social satire is witty. The action is similar to Kirby. It's a great super hero book. It's fun & serious all at the same time. I am really enjoying it. 9/10.

The Archies #3. Written by Alex Segura and Matthew Rosenberg. Art by Joe Eisma. Cover by Greg Smallwood. The good: This was more a Betty/Archie story. I liked the narrower focus. I like real life bands like Chrvches showing up. It is well written. The art is good. The bad: It looks like this & the Archie title all that's left of the New Riverdale. I really miss the Jughead title. 8/10.

Daredevil #596. Written by Charles Soule. Art by Stefano Landini. Cover by Dan Mora. New NYC Mayor Wilson Fisk has made Daredevil Public Enemy #1. And as Mayor he has the entire NYPD to back him up & hunt DD down. He goes on the run with nowhere to hide as DD & he seems to be losing hope. On the other hand...Matt Murdock however receives an unexpected surprise in a last page cliffhanger... Man this is great stuff. Just when you think you have read all the classic DD/Kingpin feuds Soule comes along & IF he nails the ending...writes another classic. So far this arc has been awesome. Buy this book! 10/10.

Titans #18. Written by Dan Abnett. Art and Cover by Brett Booth and Norm Rapmund. NO,NO. NO! This month Titans was awful. This title was one of the best of the DC Rebirth & with this arc it has spiraled downward. Just Ugh! Please DC get this title back on track. 4/10.

The Flash #36. Written by Joshua Williamson. Art by Howard Porter. Cover by Barry Kitson. This title has seen many ups & downs with Rebirth. Fortunately this arc looks like it will be a good one featuring Capt Cold. Good start to the arc with nice art by Porter. 7/10.

I rarely buy new comics, and even less often super-heroes comics, but I read this thread from time to time, and I like it a lot. I decided I'm going to go get this issue of Daredevil tomorrow. Thanks to everyone who takes the time to write these little reviews, I appreciate them.

Yeah, I've gotten into several new books this way and I'm looking to get into Daredevil as well based on the reviews by our most esteemed Michael James.

Your comment about Steve and Giganta reminded me of how Giganta was treated like a throwaway character in one of Robinson's early issues (I hate it when writers treat characters like that; its soooo lazy) and I've been thinking how much more interesting Giganta is as a character than anything Robinson has written with Jason and whatnot.

Both of you: antoine & thwhtguardian. Thank you for your kind comments. I enjoy writing these reviews. I always worry when someone else tries something I recommend. Mainly because "tastes" are different. I always wonder when I read a review on something I loved & the reviewer trashes it...did we read/listen/watch the same thing? So having said that I hope you enjoy DD. This was part 2. It is intense....

Giants #1Written by Carlos Valderrama Art by Miguel Valderrama Summary: In a world where giant monsters have taken over the world Humanity ekes out a meager existence in underground cities; but two brothers dream of more. Plot: I originally keyed into this series simply because since I was just a wee, tiny whtguardian I have loved giant monster movies and to this day I eagerly devour just about anything related to the genre. Most times these films or books are just excuses for giant monster throw downs and while the spectacle is often fun it is ultimately a bit hollow but the projects that really shine have a real bite to them that stems no from the creature feature but the human story and the brothers Valderrama showed that they really got that. Sure, there are giant monsters here but the story of the two brothers trying to make their way into a gang and become "somebodies" in a chaotic world is incredibly compelling and I'm really excited to see more of their world and to see their story play out against this great sci-fi back drop. Art: Despite hailing from Spain Miguel's work has a classic manga look to it that not only fits the giant monster genre well but the expressive faces of his characters pair well with making their plight the feature of the story. Now, that isn't to say the monsters aren't fantastic; the two we saw are really incredible with their blending of alien and animal giving them a unique look. Grade:10/10
