(besides 10,000 pairs of stretch socks) A reference to possibly my favorite story from one of my all-time favorites series, one that also happens to feature probably the only iteration of the Silver Surfer I can stand. If indeed you're not here to make friends, you're failing miserably. Hopefully you're aware that the complete run of Not Brand Echh will be available in overpriced hardcover this coming June in the Masterworks program ...

So I've seen. I'll just keep my individual issues close to my chest.

Incidently, when Batman #1 from the New 52 came out...I *hoarded* 200 copies that I got through my dealer inclusive of the Diamond discount.
I've been selling individual copies for as high as $60 each and I'm down to my last 30...which I'll stash away.
Hoarding goes hand in hand with speculating, which isn't always a bad idea.

If you have the resources and the savvy to do it, then more power to you. I haven't heard of any major shortages of Batman #1, so I don't think your "hoarding" has had a major effect on anything. If there are people willing to pay that for them, they might as well pay it to you as someone else on Ebay.

A fool and his money. The book isn't rare in any way. And there are a ton of ways to read the story.

I think Slam was referring to the person spending $60 for Batman #1 as a fool, not you as the seller But lets be honest here Jez. Let us in on some speculation attempts that hadn't worked out. No one bats 1.0000

No one bats 1.0000 I think it's unfair and somewhat callous to refer to anyone who buys a comic at 'going rates' as a fool. I wonder if certain people would like to be referred to as cheapskates?

What do I know? I told everyone in my office to buy The first Simpson's comic way back when because that seemed to be a no-brainer. And for the next few years they would ask me what its worth and I kept saying cover price, cover price. I felt like a fool

If I have to step in and break things up tonight, I am not going to be a happy camper.
Jez, the initial comment was clearly targeted at your buyer, not you.
Ish, thanks for trying to keep things civil.
Everyone chill out, remember your "ignore" features, and act like adults, please.

Jez, the initial comment was clearly targeted at your buyer, not you. Oh, I know that. There are people on this board who spend money on books, I'm not fond of that 'fool' comment for that reason. Simply put...it's insulting.

Simply put...you can choose not to be insulted by such a comment, or at least not respond by escalating the situation. Conversation is over. We go back on topic, or I lock the thread and start disciplining.

I call myself a cheapskate all the time. So I'm a trembling mass of indifference as to that. Another self-described cheapskate here. In fact, I referred to myself that way just a few hours ago in response to a shax post about Deadly Hands of Kung Fu (describing how I've found no copies of the mag inexpensive enough for my penurious tastes) in an FB group devoted to '70s comics. My go-to line here got that way because it's completely applicable -- I'm cheap & I'm (reolatively) poor; if I'm going to be one, I might as well the other.
